how fast is the p5 suposed to go?

HAHAHAH!!!

Purdue is a top speed chicken. He had to get in on this one! He lives his life one top speed run at a time.

My car shut down at about 136-137 mph. Dumbkeola also experienced the same situation! I do believe that there is some sort of govenor/fuel cut. Just to let you guys know it was not the rev limiter either. The rpm was somewhere in the 6k+ range when it shut off. Just my own experience.

i think that quik and pro5 are correct...cause i own an mp3 and it either has fuel shut off or governor at 132 also...and mine also is just right below 6k at that speed...cause i have done this quite a few times

yea my car is preaty much stock, i do have a 2.25 ss exhaust and a k&n filter, and thats all for now still 195kph isnt that bad.

The only car that is governed is the MSP. The other models are ALL DRAG LIMITED. Not a fuel cutoff issue.

hey seminole..my engine shuts down at 132...whether its fuel or governor..its something...its not drag limited cause i wish it would go faster...but mine shuts off at 132 and then kicks back in a few seconds later

im not trying to be an ass or anything by saying that its just that i know whut my car does and it does this for some reason...and its not hitting redline or anything like that either..im just glad someone else says theirs does whut mine does at that speed...not sure if dealers are installing stuff or whut but i would more than like my car not to shut off until redline limited

SeminoleMan,

our cars can go 120 tops? Are you jocking me???

Been over 130 a few times in a stock P5. sorry I"m not that stupid to take a picture at that speed, but I'll get my friend to do it next time.

let me lay this down..in a P5..the average top end is roughly 120..and that is taking a long time to get there..In my DX when i was running venom wet n20 (which doesnt help top speed) I got it to roughly 130ish on I-84E in CT..I tried again on the Tri-borough prkway in NYC..about 130 again..I first thought it was a fuel shut off too..no, the car IS drag limited..and its not breaking past 130..i've spoke with several MSP owners..they've gotten their cars to about 135-140..its not getting past that..PERIOD...the protege is about as aerodynamic as a house and until your pushing 300+WHP your not breaking past that speed..period..

WELL....with my "stock" p5, i had a drop and exhaust i got up to 133mph, that was the most it would go, probably because of a power lag, or the "drag" thing that guy with the helmet is talking about, but to disagree it does have some sort of "cut off" whether it be fuel or ignition at about 136 or 137mph, someone needs to get rid of that so i can go faster, especially with the turbo bo0stin at 15psi once those damn standalones/piggybacks (hint hint) come out!!!!!

stock = 133mph at most for me

turbo = 136-137mph at the most due to shut off (gets there too easy)

I dont know about you..... SeminoleMan.....but my car hits 136 and then there is a fuel "cut-out" i have muffler, injen cai, plugs+wires, home made ground wires and h&rs for speed, my car hits 100 no problem.

I have no problem hitting 100 either..i drive my car everyday at those speeds..BUT 130+ no..your not hitting those speeds..you'd need quite the road for something like that..I mean..It can..maybe..i've done it..but you'd need alot of time to get there..and in a P5, being heavier and not as fast as a sedan, im finding it very hard to believe your claims...

and by the way..according to mazdausa..there is NO fuel shut off on the ANY of the protege's. There is a rev limiter, 3 to be exact.. but no fuel shut offs..that feeling you get at 125+ where it hesitates and acts like there is something more to the engine is drag holding you back.

There is like 300 pounds difference!!!

that wasnt what i was trying to stress..but the P5 definetly isnt as fast as the sedan..they even dyno less..typicall 98whp 101lb~ft...i just got my dx dyno'd last weekend up in mass at it came out 100 and change and 101/lb~ft

That just sounds stupid. If they have the exact same drive train how can they dyno different?

Power: 97 kW , 130 HP SAE @ 6,000 rpm; 135 ft lb , 183 Nm @ 4,000 rpm for both vehicles!!!!

P5 weights a little under 300 pounds more.

look there hoss..you should read the other post..i've dyno'd my car. i've spoken with several P5 owners and we've compared notes..my DX dyno'd higher than both of their P5's..so get over it..i mean we're talking minor differences..but dont even try to lecture me on the weight/power difference between a wagon and a sedan..so just chill out..your car isn't break 130 until you step up with some motor work or possibly boost..after talking with several MSP owners..even their's are even reaching 140..and if and when you do reach that sacred 130.. it would be only after 20 minutes of straight line, full throttle driving...
