how fast is the p5 suposed to go?

sorry, the 2.0 P5 and the 2.0 ES both have the same engine/drivetrain. How could one be more powerful than the other because of the body style? It can't
That's the God's honest truth.
:)

well heres the break down..my dx came out over the P5...end of story..im not saying that your flux capicator driven P5 went 135..im just saying..it isnt likely..

and if and when you do reach that sacred 130.. it would be only after 20 minutes of straight line, full throttle driving... [/B]

are you talking bout the msps or the p5/protege...cause in my mp3 i can get up to 130 a whole lot faster than that...i will admit i start off on bout an 80 roll but i mean i can get up to that 130 in maybe a 2 mile stretch probably...of course going up and down on a highway will help me out like that and long downhill runs...but you were saying something bout drag limited...i can be on my friends ass in his 99 silverado like drafting him and my car will stop at 132 no matter if im right on his ass or 20 car lenghts back...and i dont think its drag limited on my particular car...its got to be a shut off or governor or something...cause it slows down to like 125 or so and then kicks back in and thats with the gas pushed to the floor the whole time...not letting off at all it will do this to me...i just need to get a pic like you guys are saying cause if you guys say that you are going over 132...im wondering if somehow some of the cars...whether it be the protege/p5/mp3 have fuel cut offs or governors...but dont quote me on my own words cause i have no clue at all

there is no shut off on the car..the cars are drag limited man..i'm telling you...sure the car can get to 140..you just have to have the power to get there..under the car's OWN power w/o drafting or any of that nonsense..its not going to get there..thats what drag limited means..when you dont have enough power to push the car past a certain speed...i mean maybe if you live at sea level..you might get a little more out..due to air density..but...not much..bottom line is this..the car isnt going that fast..I mean i've rocked my DX to 130, I have no power windows or locks..and lots of other s*** taken out..aside from that..i mean 130 is definetly do able..just takes time and a degree of insanity..but reality check..your just not going to get past that....I have a mazda 626 as well and we were out testing my theory on this..the 93 626 has the EXACT same DOHC 2.0L motor and actually weighs more..the 626 dusts my DX..top end and all..I have buried the speedo on the 626 which also reads 140..now..looking at that car vs. the protege..hell of a difference..aerodynamically especially..bottom line..given the same power..the car can go farther due to its shape..thats all im trying to say..i've run my venom n20 on throttle activation red'ing out 5th..its not getting past 130. wont do it..period

SORRY SPICY, get a turbo on your car....or then again, tell a friend to put a turbo on their p5 and you will soon find out that there is indeed a "shutoff".....its not fucken rev limiter let me tell you, i got the s*** scared out of me when it happed cause i thought the car died....i put it in neutral, let it go back to 120mph, scratched it back into 5th, and the car turned back on....ive hit this 3 times already...and with turbo, you dont need 20 mins of open road at wot....try about 30 seconds (or a miunute =0P)

there is a shut off, mazda must not know about it cause their drivers are too scared to reach that speed!!! lol

but i do agree with the drag limited...i had an exhaust on my car and it wouldnt go past 133mph, just stayed there for a couple minutes and i got off the gas...no sign of increasing speed/rev..

..i've dyno'd my car. i've spoken with several P5 owners and we've compared notes..my DX dyno'd higher than both of their P5's..so get over it..

You have a DX? With a 1.6 liter? And you think it dyno'd higher than a P5?
(rofl)

EDIT:

... i was running venom wet n20 (which doesnt help top speed)..

That explains the dyno, but please clear this up for me...How does a wet shot of nitrous NOT help top speed?

haha fool..there is a rev limiter on the car..dumbass there is 3 rev limiters placed on every car built after 96..Right, because you think your shifting at redline? what do you think "redline" is? A rev limiter...There are 3, on for reverse, on for forward gear, and one that doubles as idle control..dont even try to tell me to get a turbo..yea..with a turbo there is also no fuel shut off..just on the protege when your running boost its "powerband" is 3-4.8k on the rpms..now..if your running top end in 5th at like 5k+ rpms..uh..no s*** sherlock.. your out of boost..a little garret T-28 isnt going to be putting down boost at those speeds..get a clue..

MAN **** YOU! you wouldnt know what the **** im talking about because you aint got no turbo and you didnt experience the CAR SHUTTING OFF!!! OFF, OPPOSITE OF ON? get it, now i didnt fucken say anything to disrespect you so **** off, you making all those comments just shows how much of a fucken b**** you are....get a turbo or a car that has one so you can ride and experience it yourself, if youve been in a protege that has gone above that speed without shutting off, then congrats....MY CAR SHUTS OFF

**** YOU

i wasn't running the n20 on the dyno..i had it dyno'd prior to that..I no longer have it anymore besides, I was guinea pigging it for venom for R&D..now..n20 won't help your top speed out..even on throttle activation...basically if im going say 120mph..decide to flip on the throttle activation for n20 and gun it..all its going to do is dump n20 into my intake manifold..n20 works by causing a reaction to dump massive air/fuel into your motor...at a slower speed..this would make quite the difference..however..when your going faster..it has less of an effect..if your car isnt very aerodynamic or your going real fast, it isnt going to "push" your car to a faster speed..besides..if it did..as soon as you let of the n20 you slow down rapidly..back down to 120-125..trust me..i've done this many a time and wasted many fills on my tank...im not sure about dry systems..but thats how it all boils down for the wet systems..

"shutting off" maybe you shouldnt turn the key when your going 120? why dont you just chill out..have your car checked out..car's dont "shut off" even if there was a fuel cut-off..i have a fuel cut off on my GMC syclone..and thats at 121MPH exactly..that flutters out and slows down to about 116..then speeds up again.."shutting off" is NOT good..that doesnt happen on normal cars so you might want to have someone check out your turbo protege..

well, you could have just said that before instead of pissing me off and saying sheit about me man....it does shut off, stereo stays on but car "shuts down", i dont really know what it is but i know its not a rev limit or a drag related thing because it wants to go faster, just cant....ive talked to terry and nick to try and see if their standalone/piggyback would help this, nothing yet though

i had the venom 400-R programable ECU for my DX..I got it along with the Venom VCN-1000 N20...Now, with that ECU you can check the status of rev limiters, fuel shut offs, MAF settings..(hook it to a laptop with the provided software) now..when i ran it..there are closed and open circles to mark what is on as for settings...the Rev limiters were on (3 to be exact) and I didn't modify them, under fuel shut off it was a circle with a slash through it (meaning there isn't one) for the MAF setting it was a bunch of nonsense and i have no idea what it meant..but..even with more aggressive settings..and the n20 on..i got my car to like 131-132..and as soon as the tank sqeaked out..it shot me down instantly to 125-126..it felt like the car just got punched backwards...there isn't a limiter on speed..its just the air density and the car not having enough power to push through it..i wasn't trying to start s***..i was just pointing this out..we had quite the long post about it earlier and these kids were going craze on my about my speed and setup..hope this helped you out though...btw..the standalones AFC and such..dont do a damn thing for our cars..i bought one..and then returned it...the venom system should be out..realitively soon..not really sure..i know they had to make a few changes..but..look for it when it comes out..

this was also on the tri-borough bridge heading southbound on the FDR...at sea level..probably about 60F degrees oustide at about 7 at night..if that helps..

i know a couple civic guys that put a different comp in their car and they could rev it up to like 11k, thats with the engine worked of course...but i wouldnt suggest it

definetly don't get rid of the limiter..our cars rev too high as it is...our power band is like 3-4.5k..even though are cars go to like what 7k? i dont even have a tach in my car
