How do you find your CX-5 highway acceleration to be?

When you go for a test drive, does the salesman come along with you (uhm)

Mine never did so I was able to test as I wished. Hope you can do the same :)

Yeh, but the highest peak of the Rockies is nearly twice the elevation of the highest peak of the Blue Ridge. Objectively, they are both mountain ranges, but comparatively they are very different from each other, especially in size.

I know, brother. I know. I drove up Trail Ridge Road. Google that if you have a minute. When I left Estes Park it was 72 degrees. When I go to the top it was 56. I know there's nothing like it in the lower 48...
I still consider the Smokies and Blue Ridge proper mountain ranges.
Keep in mind I'm in Ohio...630 ft above sea level. [emoji3]

Love that drive through Rocky Mountain NP! Haven't been to Estes Park in a bit. Will have to make that trip one of these Saturdays.

He came with me.

The custom here in the states has evolved. It used to be that you could go to a dealer, get the keys, and drive to your heart's content. At some point that changed (25-30 years ago).

It's not that big of a deal. The guy has not pressured me or balked when we got off the highway and I said "We need to do that again."

Eh. I did plenty of by my self test drives.

That said, the CX-5 wasn't one of them, but the salesman didn't care what I did. I took it up a mountain freeway to see what it would do (I-70).

Sounds like there it depends on the dealership

Pretty much.

Also...if they are busy or not.

In 2015 when I bought my 6, the dealer came with me on my test drive

This time around, I took 2 separate test drives at 2 different dealerships and none of the salesmen came with me.

Trial Ridge Road in Colorado?
So in 10 miles you climbed over 3,000 feet! No wonder the temps dropped. Time to pressurize the cabin!
It does look like a beautiful drive.

Our elevations are roughly the same, depending on which hill here you're on. (I figured the CLE in your profile box was Cleveland). There is a farm across the street (with the best eggs & beef around) that has a real nice view of the Blue Ridge mountains...they're about 45 miles away. The Chesapeake Bay is about 90 miles the other direction as the crow flies, so we're on that downhill run to the ocean.

Once I upgrade my old truck I'll be taking a few more road trips to the mountains...Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive. It would be a shame to live so close in such a low-traffic area and not take advantage of it. I use to camp at Skyline a lot further north, but the area got so populated it was no longer pleasurable...same as movies & concerts.

Huh. Now, I don't have much experience test driving new vehicles. The first one I purchased in 1989 I knew exactly what I wanted and I ordered it over the phone though a discount place out of the immediate area. The next one I bought in 2005 and the guy rode with me. When I went to Carmax and test drove a CR-V, the guy rode along and was in a sales mode the whole time. The Mazda guy who came with me was very low key.

My impression in this region (DC and central VA) is that they ride along. I never really gave it much thought...I like being able to ask questions. And he didn't balk at anything I did.

0 - 60 Good
60 - 80 Enough
80 - 105 Adequate
I'm embarrassed to say I haven't had this one over 105. :-(

The last time I had a car over 100 I was 18 years old, and was in an area where I should not have done that.

Those of us on the east coast don't have salt flats to play on.

Did you have to ask to go alone, or did they just hand you the keys?

They gave me the option but leaned towards me going by myself as they already had a copy of my drivers licence and I signed paperwork stating if I damage the car, I would have to pay a large excess :)

They made a copy of my license as well, both at Carmax (a nationwide used car reseller) and at the Mazda dealership. Here in Virginia there is a "points system" on licenses. Various infractions incur different points, after which you lose your license. I have a huge credit balance because I have had one accident in my 48 years of driving. Driving alone was not offered. But again, I like being able to ask questions on the fly, and was able to drive where & how I wanted.

Maybe I should feel slighted. That should be good for another $750 off, wouldn't you thing? ;)

Only time we would lose points on a licence is if the incident involved the police or if the accident was serious enough.
