I just installed my HKS and all it does it flutter really bad even on vta. I know what this thing is suppose to sound like and its nothing like that. I dont have any fitting on the end of the bov right now, it just came with the recirc fitting so I took that out to run vta. Maybe i need a fitting for vta or is something wrong with the bov. thanks

When I had my HKS it fluttered really bad VTA if you ran it with the recirc. fitting. You have to put the silver mercedes looking fitting in there for it to sound like that. What fitting do you have in there now?

I only have the recir fitting but even in recir it sounds terrible. Its just fluttering. I took that off and ran vta so no fitting at all and its the same only louder. Its gotta be the bov itself. Has anyone else had this problem?

Its not the blow off valve, in order for the BOV to make that HKS signature noise you are talking about, you have to run it VTA with the silver mercedes fitting. If you run it with nothing, it is going to do the same as with the recirc fitting on. What makes the noise is the air traveling out of the BOV makes a whisteling noise as it passes through the fitting. Here is a link to it:

They dont have the silver one on the web site, but it says that the gold one does the same. You could probably find one on ebay if you looked for it.

If it makes you guys feel any better, my buddy has an HKS on his Evo running 23 lbs of boost, it's VTA and it flutters. The Evo's are much like the Protege's in sense that they should be recirc'd. We run on an MAF sensor as well. The fitting he is describing with help a lot but may not totally solve your flutter.

My SSQV is loud as **** above about 12psi or so. 17 is scary loud when you let off the gas. I only flutter if I'm below about 7psi.

Sounds about right, my buddy's evo flutters really bad from 15 psi and under, above that he gets a good blow off with a slight after flutter. He may possibly have a knock off though. His car holds boost really well though.

yeah when im wot and let off around 15 psi or so it just flutters, i dunno whats up but ill just stick with my greddy type s for now until I get the cpe FMIC, sounds much better i think

I agree, thats why I have the Type S now, I got rid of the HKS. I dont know how it sounds on your car though, probably the same. I just got a custom FMIC done last week and I am running the Greddy Type S BOV with it. Its AWESOME!!

the hks on the ms6, even vta with the recirc fitting should be a low long whoosh, or at least on mine it is. if it's fluttering, check all the lines, i had some crazy stupid flutter when one of my vac line's was cracked even the slightest amount. happened on this car and on a dsm i once i had.

baseballd2 -- if you want the whistle sound, shoot me a PM with your shipping address and pay for shipping and I'll send you my silver fitting that makes the whistle sound, I don't use it.

The HKS is supposed to make the flutter sound when there is no fitting in there to make the whistle sound. I conatcted them when I got mine because I thought it was compressor surge, but they told me that the valve is supposed to sound like that without the "whistle fitting"

I have the same problem with my ssqv. It was working really well the first 2 weeks i had it, fluttered under low boost releases and then you get this really nice chirp under high boost releases. I took it off to reposition it a little and i think i mushed in the valve a little bit and it seemed to be no big problem, but now its only fluttering, no high pitched chirp. I have just been dealing with it for about a month and a half, i was talking to this guy form *************** but he really wasn't giving me any help. I have the silver fitting for the bov and everything but I really have no idea what is wrong with it. I took it apart like 10 times trying to see it maybe the valve became unleveled or something, or even if the c-clamp wasn't in all the way but everything seemed normal.

I originally thought it was a leak from the vacuum line coming out of the bov so i checked for holes in it and doubled up on the zip ties and made them real tight, but no luck.

I have NO idea what is worng with it, i am seriously about to order another one.

I don't know why its not chirping but to test the valve out, just have someone rev the motor and let off it while you have your hand on the end of the valve. If you feel the woosh of air then the BOV is working. Maybe the silver thing cracked or something???
