HELP! Engine Problems.

On Sunday, after a week without driving, I needed to drive my car, so I drove my brother around for a bit. When we stopped on an uphill slope in front of his friend's house, my car's idle went crazy. It felt like the car was shaking. Then, when we were driving on a straight, downhill road into town, my car felt shaky again but this may be because of my tire and not this particular problem.

This weir idling problem has continued through 60 more kilometers and today it is still happening. The check engine soon light also came on today. When I start up the engine, the RPM's fluctuate up and down between about 800 and 1300. When I am stopped at a stop sign, it feels like it may stall. The RPMs are as low as 500 and up to 1000 on a stop sign.

I have a automatic transmission.

This problem can't have anything to do with me doing the daveB rings install and Door chime mod on Sunday, can it?

Sorry if this is a repost. If it is, direct me to a related thread please.

Any reply would be appreciated. Im sure some of you have had, currently have, or will have this problem.

Thanks alot.

How many miles on the car?

Possibly the IAC valve.

Why are you worrying about it if you only have 28k? It's still under warranty isn't it?

Idle Air Control Valve. Controls how much air the motor gets when idling, on the older FS-03 motors they had a huge problem with gumming up and getting stuck.

Yeah it is still under warranty. I wanted to see what everyone thought before I dealt with the dealer. It might have been an easy fix.

As far as you know, what mileage does the IAC usually die at?

It doesn't really die, just needs a good cleaning, if that is in fact the problem. It could be a million other things, just the IAC was a very common problem on the Probes/MX6/626s...

I am taking it to Sunridge Mazda tomorrow so hopefully it will be covered by warranty and hopefully they will be able to fix it quick.

you might want to check all of your vacuum lines, does it ever die out? mines boosted so i have more problems with vacuum lines but mine did the same thing. other than that just take it to the dealer after a good going over. not much help but i try.

What do you mean MAZDA HAS 80000 km on EMISSIONS

What do you mean MAZDA has 80000 km on EMISSIONS.

MY BOOK SAYS 24 months/38400km!!!

So in other words if EGR is F***** we have to pay almost $400 for new one.

Took it to my dealership and they said it was the EGR Valve, but there isn't a replacement part in North America!?!?!?! So it will take 10+ days but it is covered by warranty.

WOW you guys are lucky

WOW you guys are lucking.

This is my warranty for 2002 Canada.
They must of changed the warranty for 2002.5 and 2003 etc.

i have a 2002 canadian p5 and I guess I am lucky that they are replacing it because your post says that it is only supposed to be for 38 400 Km and I have 40600 or something.
