Heated Seats

I have a M5, Grand Touring. It came with heated front seats. I don't use
them much, due to living in the U.S. southwest as I do. However, now that
it is winter around here I have noticed the driver's side seat turns itself off
after a few minutes.

Is that normal?

Thanks.

Yes. Heated seats are designed to get you past the initial cold, once the cabin temp warms up enough, they shut off.

Personally, I don't like heated seats, even when it gets to -20F. Just don't like the feeling of sitting on hot stuff!

Just curious, has anyone installed aftermarket seat warmers in their 5 ( And I dont mean the granny on top of seat ones either ) I've seen a couple websites but was wondering if anyone had experience with a particular one that they would recommend...My GF has a 09 Subura Outback Sport and my favorite parts are that it's 5 speed and its got heated cloth seats

Go to the local Mazda dealer, ask them for 1 each driver side seat with heated seat and 1 each passenger side seat with heated seat, take out all your credit cards and hand them over, if your cards covers the cost, you're in luck! (glare)
if not, hummm... hot water bottles?(braindead

Good luck!:)

Peace!(rei)

other threads in the 5 forum talk about katskinz (?) leather seat covers that include heated seats

We had heated seats installed when we put on our Katzkins.

We'd had them on our CX-7, and missed them.

Katzkins resells W.E.T. brand seat heaters, a quick web search shows they're mfg in Germany, and look to be available other places as well, for instance:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RPC-250-1802/?rtype=10

Our "best part" of these are the hi and low settings (compared to off/on with our CX-7). "Hi", per the instructions, is for quick warm up, not to be used for long ("not suitable for continuous operation"). Our experience is that we're up to a light roast in 4-5 blocks. Then "low" can be used to maintain warmth for as long as you like.

Very satisfied. The installer put the switches in the console where the GT's have them, very inconspicuous and they're a nice grade anyhow.

HTH

Makes me want to wire up the heated seat on my motorcycle (K1200 GT's had them, and the seat is a nice upgrade for K1200 RS's) ...but I've been putting that off for one reason or another for five years. Sigh.

I agree that the heated seats only "run" for a short while. However, that is usually enough for me - even with Los Angeles's frighteningly cold winters (j/k).

Yeah My girlfriends Subaru has the Hi-Lo feature.... that is excellent. Thanks for the website

Yes. Heated seats are designed to get you past the initial cold, once the cabin temp warms up enough, they shut off.

But I'd like to remove that relay, fuse, thermoresistor or whatever shuts them off.

I would prefer to control my seat heaters, not have the car think for me. If I am too hot, I will turn them down. My VW Golf TDI has a 1-5 setting. I usually drive on 2 or 3 during the winter months.
