Harnesses

The only real mod I've done to my MSP is to put my Schroth harness from my previous car in it. No problems with the mounting: I used the front driver belt floor mount on the door side, and the rear seat mount in the middle, and the canter and driver's side rear seatbelt mounts in back. Works well, lasts long time.

I personally think you really need a harness of some sort to make the most of the MSP: the seats have so little lateral support that I think I'd spend more time holding on that driving. I'll take my chances for that rollover thing. I saw an immediate and tangible improvement in my car control when I installed the harness last year. It was the last thing I needed to really start driving well....

On the rolling note, I have also seen an autox rollover: another stock class rabbit with a really soft suspension, on really sticky tires: into the slalom, out of shape, overcorrect, overcorrect, badabadaboom.... He did a nice barrel roll 720. Almost artistic, even ;) He walked away and was there again in 2 months with a Jetta.... Oh, and he WAS using a 4pt harness, but obviously it didn't hit in the wrong way....

scapamouche,

I now this thread is kinda old, but search really works. Can you
post some pics of your harness.. It would help me in seeing how
to install one. I want one as well for AutoX'ing.

Thanks

No problem. I have a few pics I can post for you.

Hope these help. The schroth harness fits GREAT...

GREAT Pics!! Do you have one of the rear mount. This is where
I'm more confused on how to mount.

Thanks

NeverMind... I'm blind... didn't realize the 2nd picture is the rear
seats... It looked like belts where laid down to the front. Ok
I get everthing now.

Thanks again

My harness looks better than scaps. Its a black rallye 4 with grey lettering... very nice looking and it matches the seats. But I installed mine exactly the same way he did and haven't looked back since. I even put carseats in my car when its not racing and the schroth dosn't get in the way at all.

Install took about 20 minutes and it vastly improved our ability to drive the car at autocrosses.

It's not a great idea to wear a harness w/o some sort of roll over protection. In the unlikely event the car rolls and the roof collapses your spine will be crushed.

I've seen a few rollovers at the track and at each and every one of them the general concensus was "Thank God he wasn;t wearing a harness".

I believe he wants it for autocross, flipping a car is almost unheard of.

this is such an old thread o' mine...

but back on subject. my harness has made a world of difference in my times just due to the fact that i'm not sliding across the seat and holding onto the steering wheel anymore. i overheard someone at the track say: one of the best first modifications you can do for autoX is a harness and i agree 100%

hey search works.. its better then opening a new thread. And now
I have to see if I drive better (prolly not) with a harness. From
what you and others have said I should have some improvement (wishing).
