grinding when i turn right

my front drivers side wheel makes a metal like grinding noise, but only when i turn right

i think i recall a long time ago with my other car that this is a sign i need new brakes or something

any ideas?

check your grinding fluid, it may need a flush and put some new Castrol GT No Grind Solution in it.

Is it a grind, or a click, or a clack? Do you know what a CV joint sounds like?

On a happier note, pull the wheel and look at the pads, dude.

Does it just grind or rattle too? If it's just a grind could be a bent backing plate from crappy roads...heard mostly when turning.

First check to make sure all of your lugs are tight. If not that than it could either be brake dust buildup on that caliper and pads or your cv joint. I would start with free and easy and work from there though.

This happen in my EK hatch, sounds like the rotors are rubbing against the calipers. Have you checked?

My 2002 Protege 5 that I just got 2 weeks ago is making a clunking noise up front and on the right as well.

It doesn't always happen when I turn though. Seems to only do it when the front suspension is being compressed while turning right, if you can make sense out of that.

For example, turning right off of a street that's being worked on and going over a ridge of pavement. The right tire hits the ridge and *cl-clunk*

or if I am going fast around a corner with a bit of a hump and the car dips, compressing the suspension. Again, *cl-clunk*.

I thought it was a loose panel inside the wheel well hitting the tire because it was being pushed back by the wind or something but I secured it yesterday and the clunking persists. No noise whatsoever when doing all these things I mentioned and turning left.

That sounds more like a strut mount. Have you taken it to a suspension shop or jacked the car up and taken a wheel off to inspect yourself?
