do u think you guys will really get alot accomplished??
Still waiting to know about my sills question...

could be doable. I'll look at Badger's sills to get an idea... depends on what is necessary for bends etc... but it is doable... we'd need a group buy to initiate that kind of product because of the initial design expense involved for that sort of thing.

I'm sure I'll get the dimensions and routing i need for a short air intake. I also am sure we'll get the majority of the strut bar figured out. I'll also get a good look at those sills and figure out what can or can't be done on them. So yeah we should get a lot done... I'll work at it as long as Jon is willing to put up with me... so we could put in a good 5-7 hours tonight on things.

With your sills the only drawback is it will have to be done as a group buy because of the likelihood that the part will not be a high enough seller among the community for us to actually come out anything other than negative on the product. If you really want I can quote you doing a one off part. Otherwise we are best off trying to do a run of 5-10 of them as a group buy.

Thanks!

Steve

Turf, I just posted on another thread about needing orders for a possible group buy...I asked them to please post their interest in the project on this thread(short and sweet). Lets give it a day or so and see who's really interested, if it doesnt work out then we'll talk about a one-off part pricing....either way PLEASE do the homework on the sills so we can have a good idea of what we're looking at...

Also, dont forget about the rear strut bar!

Hey, while you're at it why dont you just look over every aspect of the car and get back to us to see what ideas you come up with??? Sound slike a tall order, but I'm sure w/ the car in front of you and knowing your limits you can get a pretty good list going for us! Sorry to be a oain in the ass, but I'm anxious as hell that you guys are doing this!!!

PS-If there's anyone that needs a 3 for this kind of situation in Sth Florida, let me know!!!!!!

Don't worry you aren't a pain. Our goal is to do what no one else is doing and do it better than you'd expect. So yeah we'll definitely look the car over and whatever Jon wants too. We focus mostly on performance because that is what I live and breath, but the occasional asthetics product is great too..

We are only a few days away from getting some more of our vendorships approved.. I"ll soon have autometer, royal purple, AEM, and a ton of other stuff for you! I can also do Corbeau seats :)

Awesome Idea!!!!!

This just dawned on me as I was doing an ebay search....CROOS DRILLED or SLOTTED ROTORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What do u think??? With a nice silver cad finish??? Maybe even a little bigger than the stock ones?????
Sounds like it'd be a simple/fairly quick and reasonably priced mod....

some feedback please, I'm dyin gto get these and just found some...

*cough*rice*cough* LOL... Just teasing.. mostly :D. I track all the time with my MP3 and I will NOT run those sorts of rotors EVER. Best thing you can do for your car is to put damn good pads on. (and make sure you do front and back).

That isn't anything we will ever do, and I don't recommend buying those as they are likely post drilled which will cause them to warp and crack. Slotting does little in a lot of cases... again... better off with top of the line pads.

ouch...rice?? I dont see how you can call drilled rotors rice when you see some incredible machines w/ them...ferrari's, porsche, lambos, etc... I know I drive a Mazda, I'm just saying... but hey, to each his own...

How much longer b4 you and Badger start hooking it up????

BIG difference between someone cross drilling whatever blanks they get and factory designed rotors that are cross drilled specifically for the material and casting for heat dissipation and pad clearing. Has a LOT to do with pad material and rotor composition. Keep in mind that a blank for one of those performance cars will run in the neighborhood of 400-600 a rotor.

We are meeting in about 2.5 hours. Then the fun can begin... I'm just going to be brazing components together. We aren't set up as a fab shop yet, I outsource end products to ensure the quality is controlled (most of the products we outsource go to ISO certified institutions). That way I can be sure you guys will get great parts that are in tolerance. I'm an ME so I'm a freak about tolerances and the need for things to be consistent to certain specifications. :)

(EDIT: Also keep in mind a drilled rotor is largely intended for cooling and relies on forced air from brake ducts to be effective... the "cleaning" aspect is also gotten with slotting.... but also drilling a rotor kills your surface area and reduces braking power. The slotted rotors can be useful for allowing gas, and debris/water clearing, but higher quality brakepads also get around that on their own due to natural camber that occurs from brake wear).

turfburn, get an ebc vendorship. :)

I'd love to. I'll have to talk to them... as I'm switching to EBC's for this year off of Hawk HP+'s I need to keep even pads on all 4 corners and I was fading out the Hawk's due to the heat I was putting in to them at high speed events... but yeah it'd be great to sell them! Maybe I can get them to make them for the 3 if they haven't started yet :)

Update... well the night went generally poorly for fabricating stuff. Was probably a bad omen when there was a massive accident and it took Jon about 40 minutes or so to get to where I was when it is normally a 10 minute drive!

We got a number of measurements done and I've got stuff I can work with. Unfortunately we didn't get a proto roughed in because the torch equipment I was using refused to get a good braze on one of the steel plates. Additionally, we were chewing through oxygen at a wicked rate and I was on my last canister. So unfortunately we didn't get a lot done in that department.

Also, after looking it over there isn't any physical way to build a 3 point bar in the Mazda 3. In the Protege there is potential, but not in the 3. If we made enough clearance to do a 3 point bar, you wouldn't be able to get access to the battery and you'd be arcing over part of the motor. So if we do a bar for the 3 it is going to have to be a single tube bar. Now we can do that and do it out of an incredibly strong chromoly and be much stronger than the other bars out there and it would be a solid structure with no joints. So if there is interest in that I'll continue the pursuit of the bar for the 3, otherwise it may have to be a dead in the water project!

Also we looked at the sills and what it would take to do a full replacement. Again that is another bit of disappointment. Given the nature of the sills the only way to do it would be to punch or draw or use a multi operation bend to get all the way over that lip. Now we can get that done, but you'd be looking at the sills running into the 100+ range because of the work involved and I doubt there is a market for such an expensive piece.

Jon and I are looking into additional ideas and areas and I'll keep it at it for you guys! The 3 overall is proving to be a rather hard platform to work on for me because of the added complexity in every portion of it with the extra curves and the extra integration of all the components.

^^^ What Steve said.

Bummer about not being able to get a prototype, but we damn sure tried hard. :D

Steve, thanks for allowing me to help out with this. I look forward to doing this a lot more often. Your cooking is also superb. Highly recommended ;)

What ideas does everyone else have? Looking at how everything is, I'm amazed that there's as much stuff out for the car as there is now! O_o;

I can agree with ya. Every time I work on the Mazda3 it seems that they did not want you to take this sucker apart to modify.

I'm still waiting to see what ya come up with on the motor mounts. I think you would make a good profit off of them since one else wants to tackle them. Work with something functional first for modders wanting real parts and leave the eye candy useless strut bars alone.....LOL (cool)

GT Spec made alot of suspension stuff.... but I want more Carbon Fiber stuff, such as just regular strut bars front and rear(covered in CF), and Garage Vary makes a Front Lip kit(but no one carries it in the states) can replicate that(CF would be nice)..., and just lay CF over gas doors, spoilers, and etc....
Just my $0.02

We've been pretty crazy swamped lately on development, so I'm still working on getting to more of these parts and pieces for you guys. I may have located a carbon fiber source as well, so I'll have to work on that some for you and see where it leads! But we are still poking at all of it... we haven't forgotten about you guys so don't forget about us! :)

Thanks,

Steve

Just let me(us) know when your ready, I'm sure we'll love your product.... I know I will get the CF stuff whenever your ready. And I also started laying my own CF(spoiler) its a working progess(already layed CF, and putting resin over it now).

I forgot if we talked about this already ... but there seems to already be a demand for stiffer engine mounts for the 3.

AzMz3 has already contacted a few companies about them and they are not interested in the 3 at all. :(

Looks like a job for ... NSN Motorsports!!! :D

LOL... I guess to the rescue we go eventually :) But we will definitely pursue it for you all.

Yeah get on the motor mounts.
Also what about a new battery box, one that will show off an Optima battery.
