GI: Transmission Gearsets

i'm not actually coordinating or handling any of it.. i'm likely a customer if anything. Nick is the source (MPI), and Focus is the originator and knower-of-more-than-I on this one.

what happend to the "under $400" fix?

you told me you had someone working on something that would make this tranny hold up?

We are.. that is something different... (and we still don't know if it will or won't work yet) This is Nick's thing which I'm keeping myself informed on as well in case my other stuff doesn't pan out. Many irons in the fire! We have on project that would yield a product that runs in the 350 range, we have another product that would run in the 500ish range, and then another product that would be in the 3K or so range, and then a final product that runs about 6.5k. But from what I know of what Nick is working on he may have something great that is a huge asset to this community for the transmission and would eliminate the need for some of our higher end stuff we are working.. so if I need to not bring those to market because Nick has something better then I won't bring them to market. i'm not going to bring products you guys dont' need out just because it's something to sell.

This kit addresses everything, from gears to, well, everything. Shifting operation is also highly addressed.

by the way does anyone know exactly why the tranny has a tendency to blow up after 300 hp? is it do to weak gears or casting imperfections or shaft deflection or loose factory tolerances? I'm just curious.

has anyones tranny actually blown up from making alot of power and couldnt hold no cuz they couldnt drive or stupid reasons

^^ yes. Focus has poped two or three when he was fully engaged in third gear and floored the car... He should be pushing 325-350+ at the wheels.

I have done Rockwell tests on the gears themselves. The gears are strong. How much power cqan they handle, remains to be explored. The problem that our transmissions are facing at higher power levels, is more of a design issue. It has to do with lubrication.

So what your offering here isn't a solution to the horsepower limit of the tranny, just a custom gearset with different characteristics depending on options but the same horsepower limits due to the overall tranny design. btw I'm just trying to clarify, so as not to have the wrong expectations of what ya'll are offering here.

I just reread my post. When I said Rockwell tests, I meant on the stock gears.

This package will adress several inhernet design issues as well as offering STRONGER gears. The transmission in turn will be able to handle gobs of more power. Lubrication issues are all adressed. This will be the end all option for the transmissions.

As for people asking for taller 5th gears, that is a little easier to address, as 5th gear is on the outside of the transmission casing. What needs to be understood, is that with a gear change for 5th, additional power is needed to support it. I am in the process of testing something right now, we just got the transmission in the car yesterday, so by tomorrow I should be able to test the new 5th gear.

if you haven't broken them yet you won't break them... the reason people broke/break axles is because of dumping the clutch with drag radials or other super stick tires. That results in a huge shock load to the axles. Just because you are getting more power doesn't mean you'll break axles.. the traction is the limiting factor.... so as long as you dont' make massive changes to the level of traction you can achieve it won't matter how much power you have or how hard you stomp on it... you won't snap an axle.
This applies to the transmission gears too wouldn't you agree? :)
I had always felt that the shafts would snap before the gears blew ever since Gotzoom sheared his. We should make a list of how many peeps have snapped axles and who have broken gears (not synchros or LSDs).

Badass. I'm DEFINITELY interested then.

Gears are not shearing because of their strength. It is a lack of oil lubrication issue that has surfaced.

So how will the lubrication be addressed? Also, there is 6 pages to this thread and no pricing yet....... :p Come on guys stop leaving us in suspence!!! :D
