If you want a taller gear remember that tripoint also sells ring and pinon gear set. Taller gears would mean better gas milage...big plus on a daily driver. EMCO gears for the protege are almost $1K per gear I think.
Can you provide more info on the current tranny...how strong or reliable it is (not including the LSD)? And ball park price range would be nice.
Nobody has blown a welded LSD like I have and Focus and a few others all have... so hopefully that will hold true for a while...
Nick, I'll PM or call you in the near future to talk on this.. I want to make sure my transmission efforts aren't redundant to yours and that we can find the best cost solution for everyone from wherever possible!
im so pissed. after building up my engine over the winter i finally got it on the road last friday....guess what happened the next day... http://www.njsr.org/pics/albums/userpics/10705/normal_tranny 003.jpg
that piece in my hand was chilling in the housing. my 3rd gear is now missing 1 freakin tooth. didnt even get to brak the motor in. wasnt powershifting or even going over 3000rpm yet. Every time i fix something, something else has to act up. i just dumped 1600 into the motor...how much will these built gears run us?
After talking with Focus yesterday this is the end all gearset. You get this gearset and you can throw whatever hp you want at this transmission. After hearing what it includes, I feel shamed calling it a "gearset" it should be called the complete "weak link eliminator". You have options up the wazzo.
I for one will prob never be able to afford these, but this is really good news for the serious folks. But yeah, a longer first and fifth would def rock
Price for jon Shepard's trannys arent that bad (price wise). I just wish we had another optionon diffs besides Quaife. Quaife is awsome but a bit of a overkill. I assume the price will be similar to a DSM FWD rebuild...which is always a godo investment.
