This hasn't happened to me, so I can't really help you from experience, but is the car warmed up when this happens? Like are you at a stoplight after driving for a while, or is it when you first start the car?

Many of your posts are about problems you think you are having with your car. I'd drive it and worry about issues that actually affect the driving of the car, not issues regarding being able to shift your car into 4th at a dead stop. Go out and enjoy the car. Needless worrying will take the fun out of everything.(drive2)

I couldn't really help you either...But i can tell you one thing...I blame SwampAss!!(mj)

I cannot be blamed this time of year in the nothern hemisphere. Swampass only rears itself during the warmer months. I know. I get swampass a lot. Especially when riding my motorcycle.

Hyun don't feel bad...my window motor broke two days ago because of this 0 degree whether we been having

It's under warranty, if you're worried take it to the dealer. I would personally have to say your shift linkage might be slightly mis-aligned. If it won't go in at a dead stop, you might be causing excessive wear and tear on it when you're moving...this means the synchro's will eat themselves soon and you won't be able to get into 4th at all.

Let them take a look!

Mine does the same. When you come to a stop it will go into 1 -3 but not 4 - 6. I never saw it as a problem, just assumed it was some sort of block to stop your from trying to get the car going from 4th gear.

Don't worry doesn't seem like a problem to me.

Maybe the car is really smart and knows you won't be taking off in 4th.

I was just fixing to ask what it mattered as you would never need to use that gear or even 3rd if your stopped anyway.

It's just habit i do before i drive or while waiting at the stop light. I always use 1st gear to go from stop.

keeping your foot on the clutch and using the stick while stopped will couse excessive wear to your clutch and bearings.

How? It's the clutch is engaged. It's not making contact with the PP. To constantly slip it would cause wear.

At dead stop, the tranny is not spinning, so if the teeth doesn't line up right, it's hard to get it in gear. But if the tranny is spinning, the synchro will help the tranny go into gear. Start worrying when you are moving AND can't get into gear.

wear on through out bearing, yes. wear on clutch, no. and when it comes time to do the clutch, just put in a new bearing, it's cheap, and it has to come out when replacing the clutch anyways.

While sitting idle (engine running) and holding the clutch pedal down, the clutch won't see any wear, but the thrust bearings inside the engine will be fully loaded loaded as well as the clutch throwout bearing inside the bellhousing.
