Fuel system SOLUTIONS...

Maybe you were better tuned, and leaned out the fuel. The MSP runs pig rich from the factory no?

I was only adding fuel and retarding the timing when I heard it, so I wasn't leaning it out at any point. That is why I am confused, because my dyno sheet from before the mpi showed 10:1 up top. I was reading 13 up top when I heard it.

Anyways, let me get to my other news. I installed a prototype BOV just a little bit ago, and it seems like some of my issues are gone now. I replaced the stock BPV and left my open vent HKS. The new valve is recirculating, and I had to remove the IC pipe that connects to the motor, and my intake to route the return hose to the intake. I am not sure if I had a vac or boost leak somewhere in that part of the system, or if something was wrong with my stock BPV, but something is definitely better. Idle is back to normal, and the car is a lot smoother. The valve sounds awesome too.:D

The only thing that worries me is when I first started the car up after the install, the car died and cel came on. I pop the hood and realize that I forgot to plug my MAF and IAT sensors back in.(hand) I plugged them back in but still had the cel. I reset the PCM so I am kind of worried that the positive results might be coming from that. Remember that I have had great results every time that I reset the PCM, but the problems return after awhile.

My stock BPV was cracked. Right on the seem that runs all the way around the valve... on the top (vaccum part) of the valve. I never noticed it before, but it is for damn sure cracked. That had to have been causing some of my problems.

That would of definatly caused you some issues. I hope that helps your lean issue.

smp3000---here is a shot of what I am talking about on the igniton tab. If you are at the point where the -4 is circled on the map and the point where the -3 is circled on the amp cloumn, then you will have -7 degrees of retard at that point instead of just the -4. That will keep you a bit safe when there is more load on the engine, it will be pulling more timing as the load increases. Got it???

Tim,

Totally understand. I never knew what that side bar was for. Now I do. Right now it's all set at 0 for ignition and all set at 1 for fuel. My timing chart at full throttle going down looks like this: -7,-7,-6,-6,-5... Very similar to Pats.

On a side note- I think I know why I was detonating.... And this is BAD news!!!!!!! My wastgate is shot! I just started to nitice the detonation yesterday during the 20 minutes I was able to drive my car. I was going somewhat easy on it since I was nearly out of fuel and we were running the AC- but one thing I didn't do was look at my boost gauge. Very big mistake!

Today before driving to my GF's house (which is 56 miles away) I did some more tuning and felt good about the numbers as I wasn't running lean at all anymore. Then on the freeway in a fifth gear pull I heard knock. (boom01) .. Did it again and this time watched the A/F's and thje boost... They were at 11.7 at full throttle- then I looked up at the boost and saw I was over 10 psi and going up!!!!!! I quickly let off the gas and tested it again- sure enough it wasn't stopping at 6psi like it should. I knew something was up with the wastegate. Once I got to my GF's I checked the vacuum line and the connecting arm and all was well. The vacuum line was free of cracks and wasn't clogged. The Damn wastegate was just not functional. :(

So I called Beau and he ordered me one which I should get soon- until then I have to watch the boost like a hawk and not go over 6- because I'm not tuned for it.

crazy eh? Has anyone else onhere gone through a wastegate?

Bummer man, I know of 1 other person that has a bad wastegate in the past 2 weeks. You might of heard of him, he is a forum regular that has been running the msp at 15+ psi for quite awhile.

Be careful untill the new one gets put in.

My wastegagte isn't holding either. I turned my Joe P. MBC all the way down, and I still o to 8 or 9 PSI. :wtf:

Are these internal or external? I have an internal that will do nothing less than 8psi without a MBC. Are they similar? Mine is off of a Mekur.

ahah woa wtf pat what's going on with us... Pat and I have the same turbo/wastegate. It isn't external.. Just a standard T3 super60 wastegate I think.

Well, I left my maps alone, and over the last couple of days, my maps seemed to have gotten richer. I'm able to run higher boost! 7 PSI tonight on the way to work. (eekdance)

Well, I found out why I got richer. This morning on the way home from work, I noticed that my throttle response wasn't as crisp. I suspected exhaust leak(s). I woke up this afternoon to find out I was right. I tightened a couple of manifold studs that had backed off a little. I had to add fuel to get my boost back up to 6 PSI. I have a revised TM box that I will start installing tomorrow. I have a feeling that I will have to back my numbers way down on my analog map. :)
