forge bov

shims add 10hp each.

lol, no, diff springs and shims are used to vary the stiffness of the spring (for different boost levels or preferences). Adding shims will basically compress the spring and make it stiffer, a different spring will be stiffer/less stiff and may also have different properties as it compresses.

Let's talk about fluttering...

I'm one of those guys that took off their Forge BPV, because I couldn't tell if it was improving performance or damaging my car.

Call me dumb, ignorant, whatever, but I just couldn't tell whether I was getting compressor surge or not. Sound is nice and all, but what really matters is performance, does "harshness" off the line count as increased performance? I have a hard enough time keeping my wheels from screeching while stock, thus with the FBPV I know I'm pulling hard, but I just can't tell if it's hurting the turbo. You know what I mean? Last thing I want to do is damage the turbo. Yeah, I suppose I'm scared.

Not to mention, CEL keeps turning on for the Flutter Valve P2006, will this eventually damge the turbo/engine if I don't get this fixed ASAP? Work has provided me with interesting hours to say the least.

And I just turned over 6800 miles on a car I got in April 07, am I the most non-driving MS3 owner out there, aside from my deployed brethren? I have a nice bike and I like to ride it... Also, I used to take her to 120-140mph on a regular basis in Germany along A6, A3 and A93. SO, in reality she is resting.

I get zero issues with my Forge valve. I have the stock type unit. The one that says in the description that it is designed to be a stock replacement just better and tunable to each application. I use the blue spring with both shims like I noted before and it's great. Most noticeably between shifts. While at WOT and shifting as fast as I can the boost doesn't *seem* to take as long to build back up after the shift. Car is OEM stock like on take offs and around town driving. All I have to tell it's there is the *TING* between shifts under boost. I added this because I know I will be increasing the boost. So I did the valve and a few other things first. I have a few MAP clamps here that I made and I will be using one and a Turbosmart in cabin boost controller. So the Forge will be getting a good test soon enough.

Compressor surge sounds like a velocaraptor from the Jurassic movies. Don't laugh, it does.

Got compressor surge with the red spring with stock boost levels and only under partial throttle boost. Blue spring settled in nice for me. Minor flutter under partial boost throttle close.

Best description of the sound it makes.

Anime sound of pulling out a katana. Lol. Kaaaaashing!

Still holding out for the silencer.
I have the stock valve still and after 18,000 miles of fun with this car, I started playing around with what I learned from that heel & toe article I found. I'm finally hearing the "whoosh" sound of the factory valve releasing boost pressure. I never noticed it before.

cheap silencer is the radio volume knob :D

Get the ATP inlet pipe kit. The Forge valve is DEAD silent when running it along with the inlet pipe kit.
