Looking to buy a 24-25 CX-5 2.5NA

2016 Mazda CX-5 Sport & 2010 Toyota Corolla LE
Looking to buy a 24-25 CX-5 to replace my 2010 Corolla. Just need some advice. I know that Mazda has had the cracked head issue with the 2.5NA engine. I believe it was due to the cylinder de-activation system. It looks like the 24-25 2.5NAs that I am seeing on auto trader don't have the cylinder de-activation and the eight digit of the VIN is "L" instead of "M".

Would these models without cylinder de-activation could potentially have the same cracked head issue in the future? The reliability ratings on Consumer Reports and they are very good for 2024 including powertrain.

Also, any suggestions for extended warranties?

I believe some later models came w/o CDA because of a parts shortage. Nothing to do with cracked heads. You're safe buying one of them.

Only some 2024 models (any trim) with L vs M in the Vin. Due to shortages at that time. I think bult from Oct 2023 till sometime early 2024.

If you dont want CD , look for those 2024 models that have the letter in the VIN
or for 2025 only the lower trims dont have CD by default. Vin doesnt matter.

If you buy a Mazda CPO it already has extended engine warranty and +1yr on the 3/36 warranty. So for a CPO i dont recommend extended warranty.
