Fmic

I would like to go ahead and upgrade to a front mount at this time. The problem is I dont want to cause a large amount of turbo lag. What is the best FMIC set up to run for a daily driver that still gives good response. With the better cooling should I go ahead and turn my injen CAI in to a short ram to assist with response since the FMIC cools much better than the factory side. Also if any one has any good info or pics it would be helpful. Thanks for all your help im trying to keep it as clean and stock looking as i can.

Its something we can all live by. You can be a total beginner or an expert if you live by this it will save you a lot of time and money in the end.

I would upgrade the exhaust before upgrading to a FMIC. You will also need some type of fuel management. I speak from experience. When I bought my car it already had a CAI and iON FMIC. Without fuel management the car ran like crap when I pushed it (stock boost). The turbo wasn't pushing enough to fill the pipes and core before the ECU would put more fuel in, so the car bogged. This was especially annoying while autocrossing. The fuel computer helped, but since I tuned it myself, it wasn't all that great. Relcating the MAF would probably get rid of this problem because it would be reading the air right before it hits the IM.

I would just go with the cheapest you can find within reason. The Perrin FMIC is too big in my opinion unless you are running 15+psi with a built bottom end, plus it is way too expensive. The HiBoost kit looks nice and is under $1000. I saw a thread earlier today comparing all the kits, but now I can't find it.

i would say either custom, or the Hiboost. the hiboost is probably going to give the best flow because its' fairly small compared to other fmic's and much longer than it is tall, with horizontal flow. It is small enough to not give much lag or trouble with the tune, but more than large enough to cool the charge air for great power. i would say that if possible, relocate the MAF no matter what you are doing. It will give better readings closer to the throttle body, and will give you the option to open-vent your bov with 0 difficulties.

also... relocating the maf in any situation will require custom piping, so you may want to just do the whole thing custom. exhaust wouldn't be bad idea either, although on stock boost it won't be terrible. If nothing else you could just gut your first cat. and i highly recommend the SRI.

I have a the vibrant cat back and also have a test pipe for the cat. I also have a BOV down near the stock SMIC it seams to cause the car to run rich and hesitate when it opens i hope that by relocating the MAF will help this.

yea it should. my friend had this same issue and cured it when he relocated. In my opinion relocating is just better for the car. I would put it as far upstream in the first pipe going into the throttle body (~2 feet away?), and then the bov on the hotpipe or just before the maf. ideally of course.
