Fishdonotbounce's 2008.5 CWP Speed3 GT "Build" Thread

I guess that's a matter of personal priorities. I'd want my DD to be fun to drive so I don't hate my life (ask me how I know, getting passed by minivans on hills on the way to work) driving to and from work every day trying to save money to fix up my project. Then you have to make a special effort to go out and drive your project [pointlessly] on the weekends. I guess for me that's why a truck is a good second vehicle, as I can still DD it if the 626 goes down, or in the winter, and it can haul a lot of junk around with it in my free time.

Oh, I understand where you're coming from... but there is also something to be said about a car that you don't **** with, and can just drive it. In my old age, I'm beginning to enjoy that more and more.

Just a quick fyi, I have a connection with a Rep from Conti tires and I am able to get $80 off a set of Conti tires, summer hp tires. I can pass this along to all of our members

I would jump on that deal but alas I need all season tire more than "summer only" tires. With 2 cars needing tires @100-125 each that means I will have 800-1000 in tires this spring. I would love to have a performance set that could just sit around til I need them but I have to be smart about my money. And it sucks sometimes!

I was thinking today, why don't you put your winter wheels on the MS3 on the Probe? Since your MS3 is your fair weather baby now, might as well put the good wheels/tires on it.

I spoke to Tony @ Conti and we have it all worked out. So once you purchase them please forward me a copy of your receipt.

so we are going to have matching tires... i just ordered a set of the conti extreme DW's for the OZ's... haha

Quick calculation shows that the MS3 tires would be about an inch and a quarter taller than the factory size 14's. Speedometer would be about 3% off of what it is now. You'd be travelling faster than the speedo. As long as the offset is compatible, I'd say go for it. Why not, right?

Not a bad idea for the winter. I'm going to have to test fit them sometime for sure.

Thanks Marlon. I sent you a copy of the receipt last night to the email address you sent me. Did you get it?

Nice! What size did you end up going with?

Something like that. I'm definitely going to try it out. Can't hurt.

Yeah, 3% off is very little. You wouldn't even notice it due to the inaccuracies of a stock speedo, anyway.

Plus the Probes' speedo is off by 9mph anyway. The other wheels may help! haha

My stock speedo on the probe reads 76 when I'm driving 70 so I'm really not concerned about that. I can tell how fast I'm going usually. There's a good difference between 65-70 and 75-80. The mushy zone in between is whatever lol.

Hmmm....I might jump on this offer as I'm looking for a new set of tires for the track. I'm not familiar with their tires so I'll have to do some research.

225/45/17, i thought about the 235's but i rubbed a good bit last summer in the rear with 2.5 degrees of camber, id like to get the camber a bit closer to 1-1.5 so i went 225... not like it really matters a whole lot to me as its still my DD and the slightly narrower tire will still provide plenty of grip when i hit twisty roads haha

What offset are you wheels? Ya it makes sense for DD tires, I don't think you'll notice the difference between 225 and 235.

I ran 235/40/18 tires on my RX8 wheels on stock suspension (rolled rears) and had no issues. But that's at stock ride height and RX8 wheels have a +53 or +55 offset I believe.

wheels on mine are 17x8 +40 offset, and i ran 235's last year but i would need too much camber for my liking to fit them and not rub, thats with rolled fenders already

unless i started pulling the fender but at that point id rather just look into flares haha
