Exhaust?

Anyone know if a catback will be a made for the CX7? Want it to sound a little more "muscular" and some more power.

Was thinking about a Camaro style muffler (in inlet and one outlet on each side) but wanted to see if anyone had the inside scoop.

Magnaflow? NO.

Give it a bit, it's still a virgin market. First thing, I'd throw a downpipe in, followed by upgraded intercooler and maybe a short ram intake. I drove a droning car for a long time... it sucks.

Magnaflow NO?

Had the Magnaflow system on the Mazda 6s we had. Sounded and performed great. Never had any issues with ANY Magnaflow product I have ever owned.

I guess it's just the ricer (not really) in me. I wouldn't put anything Borla, Magnaflow, etc, etc, on my cars on principle.

For the record I am against loud ass exhausts that do nothing. I understand that in turbo applications more is ALWAYS better, but after seeing and hearing it day in and day out, can't you (people in general) cap it for daily usage, and let it rip when you wanna go racing? Driving next to that junk @ 75mph on the freeway the driver is doing EVERYONE a disservice.

/rant

As an aside, if someone offered a "slightly" larger diameter exhaust with mandrel bends and good, high flow, mufflers (not straight through) I would scoop it up in a heartbeat after doing all the important mods.

Anyone heard of local small muffler shops. They actually do decent work and usually have a wide variety of mufflers you can choose from. Not to mention a custom catback should run ~250 tops.

more what is always better in turbo applications? More sound? No...and more diameter is not always better either (more so than NA, but there are limits with turbo's also)...

yeah look into universal mufflers with custom piping...there are plenty of places that will mandrel bend stainless...give them a Remus (hard to find the universal barrels, but they are around by some importers) to throw in the piping and it will sound great...no drone...and a decent gain in performance...

I had a GREAT RS*R exhaust for my 99 Civic Si. 2.375" internal diameter, high flow but not straight through muffler. Very minute sound increase... perfect diameter for my all motor needs... but I sold it for the more ricey Tanabe Racing Medallion when it first hit the market. Now I guess RS*R is no longer importing to the US, still big overseas...

In terms of turbo usage, our race car did much better with a 3"+ downpipe that was only about 2' long or so that with anything else. After the exhaust gases hit the turbine wheel if they cause any restriction that tended to be a bad thing for power production.

Same can be said for my daily driver but for entirely different reasons.

oh yeah...don't get me wrong...rereading what I typed it; I seemed to be an asshole about it...You just emphasized always, and there is a point where the ID no longer makes a difference...for a turbocharged vehicle a 3" exhuast is usually great (unless it is a tiny turbo'd low boost high compression engine...and you lose some benefits of a slightly smaller exhaust)...But a 5" exhaust isn't going to do anything, except look funny...and would probably make some really wierd stuff happen at low rpm...just stating that bigger is not "always" better...just to make your statement a little less misleading....

hey does anyone know what would sound good. (notice i didnt say loud and pointless) just good. borla? is a little to COUPEish but i want that sporty sound . not a magnaflow. cuz those sound like a frieking muscle car. i want to make it sound sporty but not like a rice rocket.
