For Sale CX-9 Exhaust Tips

I've spent many nights looking for the perfect exhaust tips for the CX-9 and ordered a whole range before finding the perfect ones.

They are matte black ceramic coated stainless steel and made in USA. The black coating completely eliminates the ugly soot stains that ruin the look of bright exhaust tips. These tips fit perfectly in the recesses in the CX-9's rear skirt, with an even and sufficient clearance of 0.6 inches all around. With the angled edge, they perfectly follow the contours of the bumper. The tips are long enough that when seen from the side, they maintain the 4" diameter all the way until they disappear from view behind the skirt. And they are so long and dark inside that the thin original exhaust pipe is not visible from behind the car, not even when you're looking into them from the low seating position in a Miata. We checked that :).

The 4" tips don't seriously change the CX-9's sound or volume. If anything, there might be a slight, deep undertone.

The outer diameter of the CX-9's exhaust tubes (behind the short stock tips) is 54mm. That is extremely rare, and there are no exhaust tips available specific to this size. The "universal inlet diameter tips" with three bolts weren't an option, because they don't mount reliably (I've had two fall off from others cars long ago). They are also effectively open on both ends, and I don't like see-through exhaust pipes.

These black tips are 2.25" (57.1mm) inner diameter clampless style, so I milled custom reducer sleeves to install the tips on the CX-9's exhaust tubes. This way, they sit rock solid. Because of my former experiences with loosening exhaust tips, I also secured each tip to the muffler's mounting point with a stainless safety wire (yes, I build airplanes when I don't do exhaust tips :)).
That's why I used longer bolts and two top lock nuts per bolt. The safety wire gets looped around the bolt, in the space between the two nuts. But the tips stayed rock solid from the first moment until I took them off today and re-installed the original exhaust tips because we're returning our leased CX-9. The simple 54/55mm exhaust pipe connectors required to re-install the original tips are readily available online because this diameter is common on Audi, VW, and BMW exhaust systems, but only ahead of the muffler.

Since we don't need them anymore, the pictured pair of exhaust tips is now for sale. They are extremely well made and in perfect condition; the photos have all been made today. The custom reducer sleeves for the CX-9 are not visible from the outside. Since locking hardware should only be used once, the tips come with the pictured new stainless bolts and new top lock nuts.
