Got flashed today....and damn...what a difference. However I have noticed one strange thing. The boost now fluctuates, like hits .6 bar and goes down to .5....up, down...up, down....not sure what that is about.

Any ideas?

Did you get it done at Hine through Alan Smith? He's told me you went down and got it done.

Paul Miller Mazda in Lexington KY can't find any information about the flash. In what direction should I point them?

Sounds like most dealers are being pretty good about the flash. I just wish mine could find the flash.

print out the first page of this thread with the file number and info on it, bring it to them :)

holy s***! you guys have got to get the flash done! it's a different car in lower gears you MUST have both hands on the wheel....

Plus the dealer lets you drive a Protege ES for a day, which will really make you appriciate the MSP when you get it back.

I knew it made a difference when the service writer calls to say the car is done and tells me the tech said the car had more 'bump'

no more one hand driving,

I was in and out in 30 mins, even without an appointment.

Quick story before my dealer recommendation:

I brought my 3.5 in for the reflash this morning. I started to get worried when I didn't hear anything until late this afternoon. Well, as I'm normally an old cynic, I was actually happy with what the svc. mgr told me (I asked them to check the coolant leak):

1) The car won't be ready until tomorrow. We had to order a coolant hose. :)
2) Post re-flash, we found a few faulty vacuum hoses. This might be why some of you have experienced some stalling. Replaced under warranty.
:)

NEVER have I had a dealer's svc dept. correct other things without saying a word. VERY happy with:

Ok, here is my question, if I was to get this done, I will remove the FPR but all I could ever do is run 9psi? Also I'm getting engine managment in the future is it actually worth it to get the flash if I'm doin this? Also will this limit the tuning that you could do to the car? Just wondering thanks

There is already a board member who has been running 12psi for a week after the flash.

It's been nothing but positive feedback so far from everyone (including the cynics) who got the flash. Get it and engine manage later. :)

I would give Mazda engineers credit for knowing what they're doing - call me crazy. :D

Just got mine today... WOW... I plan on leaving the FPR on there though. I was keeping an eye on my A/F guage and it is still really rich. Besides, the FPR only kicks in once the car goes into open loop at high rpms... But this flash is just what the MSP needded!!!

Thats awsome, I'm going to my dealer tomorrow and see, now with joep's fpr kit I'm going to remove it cause there will be no need for it now. Also would it be a good thing to go with a FMU that essential speed is offering or not, they are also selling a fuel cut defenser which is also on my list of things to get? what is your thoughts on this. Also if I take joep's fpr out how do I plug the hole that we had to drill for it?

Thanks

yep I like it! Also got the bushings replaced.

I got mine flashed on monday at Dworkin Mazda in Derby CT. The car definatly hasa more power. It is wierd because i keep waiting for the hesitation and it never comes. I have learned to drive conservitaly because of the stumble but now i dont have to. It look 1.5 hours. they were really cool. There is also a tech there with a n/a civic pushing almost 200hp to the wheels

yes, the flash is worth it! 3 times now I have been in 3rd or 4th and thought I was in the lower gear!! 3rd feels like 4th and 2nd feels like 3rd its great

I got my Speed Flashed today (or as I would like to say.... BRAINWASHED).

Very nice and smooth. I have to agree w/ the other people. I am much more confident in my vehicle...

Let me tell you mr GI,

I do enjoy this new flash. I can run at all RPM's and not spuah spuah sputter around through the middle of the band. They didn't even reset the ecu.

It was sunny and hot in the sun, but the air was cool. I thought I felt SOME hessitation 1 of the times I got on it, but maybe it's my imagination.

I'm not going to blow this out of proportions. This is definitely a good thing for the car. So what if you can't boost to 12 just yet. It'll be taken care of by someone! :D

As far as daily driveability..... I like this post flash car much better than the pre flash. Engine braking is much smoother, not too much chugga chugga chugga when you just let off the gas in traffic (in 2nd) and whip lash all your friends in the car. Being in the worst trafficed area in the Country (Northern VA and DC) I have as much as 10 lights for 9 miles. My old job had 23 lights for 11 miles.... so I do a bunch of stop and go. This car sucked in the stop and go (b/c of the long idling which helped to heatsoak the ic), but the post flash helped out a lot.

I am a happy camper! :D

Here is some additional info for people going to dealerships that don't know about the Flash.

A summary-

1.) There is no official TSB for the hesitation issue.
2.) There was a Tech tip e-mail sent to all of the Mazda service managers around the country about the "Bucking, hesitation" and the email mentions the re-flash or new build with the file name. (Some did not get the email)
3.) Dealers need to update their systems to the "24/7 WDS Update" This will enable them to plug into the diagnostics port to scan, for potential updates.
4.)Once it finds that an update is available it will give them the file name of the flash needed. "Q0AP4C0"
5.)The Techs download it to floppy and load it on the flash tool.
6.)The flash process begins which takes 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Power is as follows as previously posted

Many dealerships need to open a service call to diagnose the issue first.

Most will not find any problem, in that case the customer should say that this was not satisfactory, and then they will run the WDS to check for files so that they can charge Mazda for the service.

Some may try to charge you for the reflash.

If they attempt that, you should advise them to call the Mazda Technical line for more information or find a dealer that will work with you.

Any dealers that give the customer a hard time should be reported to Mazda USA customer relations department.
