Enough Already!

Well, one might confuse defensive driving with "road rage". I make an effort to keep anger out of it but if someone is gonna create a dangerous situation for me, I'll do what I can to prevent it.

by pissing the person off that wants to pass thus giving them a reason to be a dick back towards you and possibly cause a multicar pile up on a highway. Yep you got your priorities straight and a real good way to prevent it.(jerkit)

...by cutting them off FIRST, brilliant! All I'm saying is this, if you have enough time to evalute the situation and say "That guy is gonna try and cut me off", you probably have enough time to give him a wider berth. One day that other driver that you try to cut off is just going to go for it instead of backing away and then they're going to plow right into you.

I see idiots pull this s*** all the time on my daily commute. I work in Baltimore County and drive route 95 twice a day for 30-45 minutes. My thinking is if I just get out of their way, they'll be miles up the road and nowhere near me when/if they does run into someone. Hell, I've pulled off to the side of the road to let a whole group of jackasses fly past me when I saw them coming up in my rearview. I don't want them anywhere near me and the sooner they pass, the better.

The problem here is that there often isn't room to back off and let them in since the asshole behind you is on your bumper. So, you back off and let him in but that pisses off the guy behind you. It's a no-win situation. Maybe I'm naive but it seems to me the prevalent way to drive for most people, at least in the Chicagoland area.

BTW, don't think I'm a novice. I've been driving 23 years so I have accumulated some experience on cause and effect in everyday driving.

there is always room to back off. you don't have to slam the brakes to back off just a nice simple slow down will typically get the job done.

you didn't say slam the brakes but by saying that there isn't room because the guy behind you is up your ass indicates that. If someone is up my ass and i slam the brakes, i get hit. if just let off the gas a little then i don't

Try having every jackass from all over the U.S. drving next to you pulling all sorts of s***. Here in Vegas, people will merge into your lane no matter what. Even if your there or not. You have no choice but to let them in if you care for not having an accident.

On the I-15, that runs right thru the middle of the city, is under major road contruction and has lanes shutdown all along it and make you merge over. Most people (me included) who commute will get over about 1/4 out from the flashing over arrows (at this time traffic is backed up and stop and go) The close down lane will be clear up to the flashers and you get some jackasses flying down it and merging in almost creating and accident. I've ssen some people so stubborn to get ahead that they cruise in the shoulder. Either people are such douches or just need to look ahead while they are driving.

Been there. I lived there for 6 years and yes, vegas drivers are some of the worst that I have encountered (ugh)

Been their done that! Don't plan on going back either. The cabbies their will take that inch that you have i front of you. Its way worse then cali will ever be. Trust me I know how bad it is in vegas! Not as bad here in jaxs but try having two bases(naval and air) and people from all over the world driving around! it gets nuts! Grant it not as nuts as vegas but you get the point.

This is the last I'm gonna post on this because we've hijacked this thread.

It sounds to me like you and others are suggesting that, by refusing to let another driver create a dangerous situation, you are creating a more dangerous situation. Is that correct? That isn't logical to me but then again, there's a whole lot of people incapable of using logic and they drive cars every day.

What I'd really like to see is a lot more unmarked cop cars on the road and give massive penalties/license revocations to people who a)drive at highway speeds and don't leave the appropriate amount of space in front of them, b) people who are "lane jockeys", c) idiots who ignore merge lanes and drive with one car length or less in front of them, d) people who refuse to turn on their headlights in low light conditions "to save gas" or "because I can see fine" and, of course e) anyone multitasking while driving in traffic (phones, makeup, eating, etc).

They'd make alot of revenue that way and maybe people would start being a little more considerate of their own driving habits. It would also keep the cops (incredibly, by my estimate) busy instead of them sitting on their asses most of the time so taxpayers dollars would be well-spent.

All the revenue acquired could also be used to improve roads. Ah, but I dream ....

good luck getting that enforced! Also if the cops would do their job they wouldnt be sitting on their asses all day not having a thing to do. Trust me I see them all the time just chatting up in gas stations, my community office( for hours), kmart ect ect but they call it making a presence and doing their job. However that another topic all together along with making cops follow the roads of the rules unless their lights are on. again thats another topic all together.

LoL...we have an Air Foirce base here. And we do have people from all over the world during our exercises. Brits, aussies, japanese, koreans, swiss, french, belgian, Germans, brazilians, Isreal, Indians, Dutch, and many more. Lets just say it sucks driving on base becuase of all the nationals. And I don't even dare go down to the strip.

I know the south east is pretty bad too. I was stationed out in Georgia for 3 years. Atlanta is no fun.

Sounds about right.. you ought to see when we have other nations subs docked here for a little bit...now that gets interesting and excercises going on at the same time..(boom07)

One of the founding principles of this country is that the police are bound by the laws they enforce.
Unless of course you're Homeland Security or a traffic cop.

you got a good one there...

not really trying to be an ass, bro, but drivers who think they can enforce their idea of 'the law' onto others.. by doing stupid things, LIKE NOT MOVING OVER FROM THE FAR LEFT PASSING LANE, THEN SPEEDING UP WHEN SOMEONE TRIES TO GO AROUND aren't really doing anyone any favors... .. no way you are gonna convince me that you are justified in this... sorry, but that's not your job... i trust you live in a place where that will fly, cuz it probably wouldn't work here, people like to fly on the freeways... :)

out where i live.. you get traffic all stacked up behind you, because you won't yield the fast or passing lane, you get a pretty good ticket.... it's just dangerous here.

more cops? more traffic unmarked? not going to win any popularity contests with that one either....

no phones, makeup, etc. now you're talking... came up behind two people today, in the passing lane (plenty of room with 6 lanes)... on the phone... weaving. oblivious. 10 mph under the speed limit, brains turned off.

personally, my favorites right now are the losers who get on the HOV (hi occupancy vehicle) single lane... then run 15mph UNDER the posted 55 or 65mph limit... nothing quite like the rush having 40 cars with pissed off drivers and passengers stacked up behind you i guess.

and that is squidmo's rant for the day... thank you. please tip your waitresses..
