Engine Problem

I bought my 2003 Protege 5 in July, its a 5 speed standard transmission and I have about 10,000 KM on it now, tonight something wierd happened, the car began to sputter when I was drving, when I stoped the rpm gauge was bouncing between 500 and 1000 RPM's and the car was shakeing enough to feel it and the engine light came on.
I just restarted the car since its been a few hours and its shakeing worse but now the RPM hand is bouncing between 1500 and 2300 RPM when in neutral.
Anyone else have this problem? Does it look like my engine is going? I don't know much about how cars operate under the hood.

The first thing I would do is call mazda- that's one of the nice things about owning one. did your oil light come on as well?

Nope, oil light is not on. I'm going to be calling them on Monday morning, I'm just wondering if anyone else experienced this, in the mean time tomorrow I'm going to buy some fuel injector and see if that makes a difference

you definitely don't need that. You might want to check your plugs though and see if there is any fouling

well at least it was an easy fix- didn't have to go without your car for a week while the dealership tried to figure it out

it might be your egr valve. i had the same problem and it was repaired under warranty, no issues since.

Problem with Protege 5

All I have to say is that if you think there's a problem take it into the Dealrership and get it checked out! I did and required a NEW ENGINE REPLACEMENT after only 8 months of ownership!

Not for the same problem but my situation was a little vibrating sound coming from the engine area that caused my concern. Good thing I took it in as it was covered under warranty.
