Engine Blown...

Boosting between 8-9psi, high RPM, ignition timing was off. :( Guess when they say it's difficult to hear pinging after 4000rpm they aren't kidding.

I shouldn't have been as hard on it as I was when I knew it wasn't ready. It was a mistake, and an expensive mistake at that, good thing I can afford it. Lesson learned. Note to all you guys messing with your car, be sure you are finacially capable of fixing your vehicle if something goes wrong. Adding the boost controller, FMICs, etc etc is the easy part.

The only good thing about the ordeal is now I'm going forward with a bottom end rebuild. New motor, forged intenals, port and polished head, disco potato, custom 3" downpipe, possible new clutch and my new GB motor mounts were already on their way, and a few extras, are being added to whats already done to the car.

I've proved it was an unreliable 240whp, when I get the car back it will be a reliable 350whp if not more. I was always planning on doing a motor rebuild myself one day, when I could do it in a garage of my own down the road, but I don't enjoy paying x amount a month for a car thats sits static.

Good Luck!

Ouch thats an expensive little hole you got there. Good thing you already had big plans for the car and the money to do it. Good luck!

Oh yeah and thanks for not saying:

"Damn bad Rods!!"

Atleast you are honest with your crazyness

be more specific ... u were running 8-9 psi for how long.. any supporting mods ?

He was running 9psi on my stock boost maps. The maps were modified, but from what I was told, the spark was not delayed enough for 9-10psi and there might not have been enough fuel added. His mods are very similar to my current setup.

how much different were the maps compared to the stock ones? Ive been pushing 8-9 and just curious if my engine will go. Does each MSP have different maps to a certain degree?

Sorry to hear about that, good to hear that it hasnt bumed you out to much though. By the end of all this you should own half of kinetic. Good luck.

My engine went last weekend; a rod right through the bottom. Does anybody know where I can purchase a new fully built block with good internals?

Yea what else exactly did he have in his car? No way it just blew running 8-9 psi with nothing else. Were you racing? Gunning it up a hill?

Here are 505zoom's relevant mods. Are these what you have done to your car?

Manual boost controller
Modern Performance piggyback fuel & timing controller
Modern Performance dual 45lb secondary fuel injector setup
iON Performance front mount intercooler
Custom blow off valve system w/ HKS SSQV
3" turbo-back exhaust w/ Saber muffler and single hi-flow cat
Customized Injen intake w/ A'PEXi filter
AEM UEGO wide-band o2 gauge
iON Performance front mount intercooler

Also, do you have an pics of the spark plugs and piston tops (all the cylinders)?

What was the wideband saying?

In any case... it'll only get better from here.

BTW...I think you win the SMALLEST HOLE MADE in a BLOWN ENGINE award! The whole is so "cute".

Ha! I thought the same thing. That is the cleanest blown engine I have ever seen. The rod punched a perfect hole.
