Does anyone know of any garages where you can do work on your car? It can be in any city, just wondering what there all about. If they have a web site, that'd be best. Thanks.

I've heard of them, but no I've never really had success tracking any down in Chicago.

I'm sure the liabilities must be a pain to deal with.

What was on your short list of things you would have like to have seen in it?
lifts and a s*** load of tools, especially specialized ones that make jobs easier. thats about it. just a clean environment to work on your car with the proper tools and protection from the elements.

and friendly people there to help you incase you get stuck or need some assistance

That's pretty much what I would want to have, a bright, warm (in the winter and cool in the summer), place where we may have a few experts on hand to help. I was thinking an old self car wash place would work great, thay already have all the stalls. I think we'd also provide each station with a air hose and some basic air tools. The specialty tools would cost money to use. have to make money somewhere. I just don't know if it would be profitable enough to stay in business. At some point I would like to also have a dyno for tunning and stuff. What else do you guys think.

Ive heard they have those on military bases, and its like $5/hr for a lift bay and all the tools you could ever want.

Correct you are. They are the greatest thing Evar! The military has the advantage that we can't sue them though. So yes, in practice in the private sector it would be hard to make it work.

Most of the ones I have used on post are nice. Brand new lifts, quality tools, and usually pretty good guidance from the guys on staff there. Hell, the one at Pearl Harbor even has a paint booth and baking room.

Unfortunately the one at my current base is a little ghetto. Some of the bays are nice, but some are on seriously cracked pavement with hella oil pools. The worst part is there is one guy who works there that is a former recon. inspector (Hawaii's ultra anal vehicle mod. inspection run by the state cops). I don't even take the Speed up there anymore because he comes sniffing around looking for illegal things on my car. The guy even lied about their "only" set of spring compressors being used when I took my car up to install my Teins. The damn things were sitting on the wall right behind him. But since in Hawaii it is illegal to do your own lowering I had to let it go.

Sorry for the digression there. It just pisses me off.

do you guys realize how much the insurance would be in a place like that....
well yeah, so? if you make enough money to offset the cost of insurance, i dont see it being a problem.

insurance would be cheaper than paying employees $10.00/hour which is what im gonna charge. PLUS... They will Definately sign waivers when entering the shop area
