Dirty turbo

I'm installing a greddy EBC and pulled the pancake intake tube leading to the compressor side of the turbo. When i got it off i noticed the compressor was dirty. Not caked on but there is a noticeable layer on it. Is this from the PCV and EGR? or are the recirculated after the compressor? Could the BPV be recirculating the crap when it opens?
