Custom intake for the 1.6L

And weapon-r. The original SRI is 2.25, and the elbow is 2.25. Im putting the elbow at the end of the SRI.

The inner tube patch trick does help at least with bad idling and jerkiness. Its the reason i got mine to work. After i used a 2nd one on top of the first one,(shame) My idle has been perfect.

I guess the hesitation and lost of power is a sign of larger tubing, and the bad idling and jerking is because of vac. leak.

Ive seen the 2.0L guys use all kinds of bends in their SRI to replicate the injen.

Red99pro... do you have any close-up pics of your engine bay

Help me out!!

i been reading all this post about intakes. I'm not sure which one will be the best. The thing that f***s me up its the air meter or w/e. Give me some hints please!! details on power and noise too! :D

Thanks! (headbang)

THe simota would probly be best. The MAF is a sensor that measures the air coming in the intake stream to determine the fuel and other stuff. it is very sensitive and stupid on our cars. basicly u have to find somehthing that seals good around the MAF and has 2.25" piping.

or for now u can remove all the scoops and plastics up until the airbox.

how's the tone on the one u told us about? ( put the air cone in front of the airbox)

Any low noise muffler for the protege??

thanks!

its about the same as removing all of the piping. more noticable outside of the car. Definately deletes the stock econo car jjjiiiiizzzzzzzz noise, even though the portege is sort of a throaty sounding car from the factory.

Sounds good! I was looking to my engine bay this morning and i was thinking to cut the intake tube right after the air meter ends (before the airbox) so then just connect a small tube or the cone filter. will that work??

thanks!

Yeah. Ur smart as ****, alot of other people and myself have never though of adding an extra tube in there, and attaching the filter to the other end of the tube, rather than hacking up the airbox.

i might try this with my 90 degree tube since i get a negative vtec difference when my A/C fans are blowing.

this is the best idea, i did this back when ky car was non-turbo, and it yielded the best results, i had the nice fancy coldairs, and short rams, and they sucked balls.

when i chopped the stock box off after the maf and threw on a filter it worked great, no hesitation.

So how's the noise with that idea i came up with?? Sounds high?

Also i was thinking to get rid of the black tube that comes out from the intake manifold and put an aluminum one direct to the MAF

Ok now my question is can i take off the small hose that goes from thebeginning of the air tube (next to the intake manifold) to the engine head?? What happen if i take it off?

Thank you!!

its just a breather, for the valve cover, most people buy those little mini looking air intakes, and put them on. but if your keeping the stock intake pipe on then you mine as well keep the hose on, no need to take it off.

Actually I'm gonna try to change it, so i will get those mini filters. I will post pictures when my whole intake is ready, from the intake manifold all the way down to the cone filter.

Any recommended low noise mufflers for the protege 1.6??? I'll appreciate all opinions

Thank you!!

That turbo put out alot of torque(jerkit) wish i cud do it.

low noise??? prolly not gonna happin with aftermarket systems, maybe a nice racing beat from an msp, that would sound good im sure, but any kind of aftermarket fartcan is gonna sound horrible.

What size filter would you use?
