ok, lets see how i can say this.....yer engine is ******. take it to the dealer and have them remove the oil pan and you will see lots of soft metal (that is what happened to me.)

ok...just so I can make sure that I actually have the same problem as you.

You posted that your noise was a product of oil starvation and that you were burning oil. How much oil and in what kind of time frame? I only ask because my oil seems fine and if the oil is the sure-fire sign of a spun crank bearing causing the ticking then I think I am ok.

Ok... here is another possibility, somewhat less likely to raise bloodpressure as high as would the expectation of rebuilding/replacing the engine.

On another thread describing the same kind of noise someone suggested detonation. I had no idea what detonation was so I did a little research. This link is what I found and it described my sound and the conditions under which I hear it exactly. Read through the description to see if it matches anything you guys are experiencing.

so what is everyone saying?.....
I only have 50,000 miles on a very well maintained P5 that has been serviced at the same dealership since brand new....

I am not saying it's lifter or Main or anything. I would have to experience what it is doing. Just to let you know that there have been peeps kill their motor from starvation of oil due to "Fun Driving"

(jerkit)

if it was the lifters wouldn't you hear the sound when you rev the engine, the sound only happens when accelerating. you can sit there and rev the s*** out of the engine and no sound. till you actually start driving that and its coming from the left side of the engine bay or drivers side.
