cds skipping...is this normal?

I bought my car at 35,000 miles and ever since then (7,000 miles), I have noticed that all my burned cds periodically skip when I play them in the stock indash cd player. It doesn't do that with original cds. And the cds are not scratched. Has anyone else noticed this? Is there anything I can do to fix it?

i have the same problem.. re-burn the cd's at slower speed, it'll burn the data deeper into the cd's

thats another good think. u rip above liek 42x, its loses quality, slower is better. the girls think so too

i noticed that any of my burned cds that were rewriteable did that but the regular cd-r's didn't...i'm not a comp wiz by any means so i have no clue why that happens...you can always buy an aftermarket cd player to remedy the problem :) j/k

(my two cents!!!)

i have that problem when i use the real cheap CD-Rs such as Harmony, but I've never had a problem with a high-quality CD-R like Memorex. Wether its jsut a coincedence or if there really is a difference in quality. Try using a better CD-R and see if it makes a difference.

i had this problem before. it could be many different things. first try cleaning your cd player lens. also, the brand of CD-R/RW does make a difference. i had to re-burn my cds on different discs because the ones i used were bad. if that doesnt work, try burning them at a slower speed. thats all i can think of, but then again, i am no expert on this.

I had somewhat of a similar problem... The loading mechanism on my CD player stopped working, and I had to take it up to the dealership to have it fixed...All the guy did was pressed the reset button, but he told me not to put burned cds in it...Didn't give an explanation as to why that is, but I sure would like to know...If anyone does, send me a pm or something please--thx

BINGO! I've never had a problem with Memorex CDR's. The Sony ones I bought skipped like a school girl on her birthday, though...even in my Alpine HU. Get some good quality CDRs and I'll bet the problem disappears.

i had the problem.... just skip like hell in the first track... happened on all my cds and it got worse and worse... o i don't own any real cds... i just burn them
i had the dealer replace the cd player under warranty

Try slowing down your write speed to 8X with your existing CD-R stock. If it still skips try 4X, and so on. If it doesn't skip at 8 go up to 16X, and so on. Find the write speed, if it exists, at which point your existing CDs don't skip. Then try the Memorex CD-R and do the same exercise. If there is a quality difference (which I believe does exist), then you sould find the Mems will be able to burn at higher speeds without errors (manifesting as skips in your CD player).
