Can this be done safely? (a little dreaming)

Yeah my plans are similar...i just want like 200hp! Enought to turn my grocery getter..into a lean but mean street car..i just didn't like the fact that civic si's were beating up on me..and they were stock!

Just add a turbo..no need to go w/ something as expensive as a highboost kit..you know..there are couple kits in the 3k range..and the moder performance..kit you get a piggy back..and with the extra money you save...you can just install a nice 3" exhaust..at like 8psi..and you'll be around the 200hp..mark no problem!

Don't get me wrong though..highboost has a very nice kit..and their stand alone..will give you plenty of playing around when you wanna install something like forged internals..

But as i mentioned..the moder performace kit..is a nice all around kit..similar to the flyin protege kit..i believe moderperformace uses at ihi bb turbo..which is good for spool up...

I went with the t3 b/c i knew i want power..and not have to turn up the boost to much..at 8psi on my t3..i will be outflowing an ihi..or t25 turbo..and putting down better numbers..and have less of a chance of detonation..b/c those smaller turbo heat up..once you turn up the boost!

Make sure whatever turbo you choose has water cooled! This will help with the longevity of the turbo!

I don't really feel like reading the whole thread (sorry mate), but instead of getting a 37k $ SUV, why not get one of these?

I'd guarantee that you'd love it if you drove it. Mine does everything for me, no problems. If there are any electrical gremlins you can usually solve them by switching out a relay.

I've gone skiing, haul my doggie around, move my whole apartment worth of stuff... it's great...

Just a money saver idea for ya ;)

Edit: Well, I posted a 16V model. The 16V has an interference engine. Almost all the 740s out there are 8V non-interference models.

not to thread jack but, this is a very interesting thread. i've read it from the begining, and find this very helpful in desicion making in the future. (rockon)

With a good computer and internals, you shouldn't have a lot of problems with car. There is a formula somewhere about the temperature each 2 pounds of boost adds, and keeping the temps at stock levels with that much boost will be safer on engine. The tranny I could see going out with over 250, but thats if you drive the piss out of it. I had a 91 nissan stanza that i had done some custom mods too, i drove that damn thing like a dodge viper every where i went, it took 40,000 miles for me to burn my clutch out and mess up the transmission, and i believe the proteges tranny is about 1000 times better than that old piece of crap. I know moding cars lowers life, but around stock engine temps with more horses is going to do about the same effect as stock on the parts, as long as you have a good efficient setup, and with forged internals you're good. I believe the tranny is where the problem lays. But thats just my 2 cents, i wish i had that article......:)

Oh yeah by the way, someone said something about having to shift before 6000 rpms, you should do that anyways, because if you look at the power curve for the HP in these cars it falls off enough that when you shift its more efficient to go to the next gear at 6000.
