I actually almost kinda feel bad for them. That's krazy Kalifornia and property rights for you. I say throw 'em in jail a week for a first offense or make 'em do a month on their second (plus revoke their license for a year). That should teach them. But I don't see the point in depriving the world of a gorgeous rice mobile that could be sold on eBay by their family.

And, as with any article by the Associated Press or Reuters it's high on errors (Vtech) and low on important details. But that's the mainstream media for you.

OK-- I re-read the article a little more carefully. They need a court order that car or engine VIN numbers were removed or taken from a stolen car. BUT I can see myself replacing the engine on my Miata and the VIN number not matching. But I'm sure certified junkyards have to run those numbers.

So anyway.... I'm sure the courts and cops got it right on this one and they were hot engines. (upbum) Acura Integra.... most stolen car in America right? I'm laughing now I guess. Serves the thieves and hot goods buyers right. I seriously doubt they got crushed for a homemade CAI.

i was just going to post this up, sucks to get caught. so u pay the price

I always thought that was a stupid policy...

Why not sell the cars at police auction and at least make some money for the PD? While they are at it, they should start burning cash confiscated from criminals...

They are wasting taxpayer money to make a point.

well the fact of the matter is, even if those were stolen, they belong to someone. because obviously there was a record of them stolen. so it's just a matter of time before a big ass lawsuit against them, because i'm pretty sure they didn't due process for that and for time for the original owner to come claim it.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing...
