Brakes Gone Already!!!!

I am shy of 23,000 miles and my brakes need replacing:mad: I do not drive aggressively. I most of the time stay within speed limits so there is never really a need for any hard braking? I went to the dealership only to be told warranty does not cover wear and tear issues? I argued with them and got no where. I called other dealerships and the same argument!:wtf: I called Mazda!!! they asked me for my vin number I gave it to them and they sounded almost like the people at the dealerships! Where do you go after that! The lady on the phone from Mazda took my complaint and said someone will get in touch with me in a few days?!? I owned a honda before I owned a P5. I think this will be my last mazda purchase!! I have issues with other things with this car but not enough of a problem to get rid of the car. But this really takes the cake!!!!! I ordered some brake pads so that I can do the brake job myself and I am having a hard time finding rear brake pads for the p5!? I am told by Mazda these pad are special made. Think I am kidding try your local auto parts place for rear brake pads for the P5 and they wont have them in stock they will have to special order these from mazda. Also the dealership has them but they are charging $125.00 for just the front BRAKE PADS!!!! I am wondering to myself what idiots that work at mazda! I ordered some pads from Tire rack. They are back ordered on the back pads but they should be coming in any day now! i hope you guys don't run into this problem!? I may eventually sell this car? I am ticked off!

Think... I'm partially sympathetic.

If you took the time to read the owner's manual when you received the vehicle there was a seperate insert that discussed the warranty coverage of your vehicle. Within this section it explained this "wear and tear" you speak of in your post.

One of the first item(s) it lists is brake pads, followed by things like windshield wipers, etc.

While 23k does seem a bit premature you can't argue the warranty issue on the pads... it's in bold text right within the user's manual.

thats pretty ticked off over brake pads ;)

its not THAT premature. especially if you do lots of city, stop and go driving. if you look under harsh driving conditions mazda recommends you inspect and replace if necesarry after 15k miles.

under normal conditions its 30k, so chill. and yes dealers always charge that much for brake pads no matter what company when you can get them for 1/2 that price.

After 7500 miles, I have 70% left on the front, and 60% in the back. I'm well on my way to beating your 23k. ;)

<--- lead foot

Just put a hole in the flooring on the drivers side and buy some good runners with thick soles..........

Wow, relax. 23,000 miles is not premature wear for brake pads, go to an auto parts store, spend $20 on new pads and replace them yourself.

Agreed...Brake pads are cheap and easy to change. Depending how hard you are on the brakes, 23K may not be premature. When I traded in my 2001 Protege it had 46K on the front brake pads and they still had quite a bit of material left. But then again, i'm a driver who likes to rev match and downshift to slow a vehicle.

thanks everyone for the advice. I will buy some pads and replace them. I am having a hard time finding the rear pads. Most places around town have to order them and it is a 5-7 day wait. I have no brake now as it is. I guess I have to rent a vehicle. Also I do not do alot of stop and go driving. i commute more than 30 miles one way to work and 30 back home. Most of my fun driving is usually on Saturdays and sundays! Which is why I thought it was premature wear! I guess it is a lesson learned:rolleyes: I owned 1998 civic ex bought it new. i think I replace the brakes for the first time at around 60k.

kilometers or what?!

ive NEVER EVER NEVER EVER Seen BRAKES last 60,000 MILES!

Maybe in my WILDEST DREAMS! :D

Wow guys, you guys must be really hard on your brakes! 23,000 miles and brakes all worn out, at least I think that is on the very low end of how long they should last. Especially for the rears which usually last much longer than fronts. Although Im sure that manufacturers are making thin rear pads now a days so you have to get all of your brakes replaced at the same time. I replaced the pads on my 99 Accord at about 60,000 miles (not km), and felt guilty throwing the pads away because it looked like they could have gone about 20,000 more, no kidding!

I understand that performance pads may not last as long, but I doubt the P5 comes with any sort of high performance pad out of the box.

I guess I would accept it if it was me, but I wouldnt be happy with it.
