Boring Daily Build

Maybe one of those CD lens cleaners would help.
The lens may just be dirty?

Your CD player is 20 years old.
The motors may be all dried up and seized.

It may not be broken enough?
That improvised SST should do the trick. Lol

Maybe try getting it nice and warmed up and try to put a CD in and out a bunch of times to work the motors?

It might be like walking around when you cramp in your leg. Lol

Maybe try disconnecting the power to reset it?

But if your radio works then it may be a mechanical issue.

The CD may not be fully loaded?

My CD player was doing a similar thing.

It would just reject any CD.
I turned it on and left it on for a day, then it started working.

I think the heat warmed up the sticky motors and sensors and it just started to work.

Hmm...

All I can think of is to try this...

I'm thinking that the stereo unit is smart enough to know what's wrong with itself?

I remember a guy that had a CD changer and it crapped out.
His CDs were trapped inside his head unit for months.

He finally removed his head unit and disassembled it to retrieve his CDs, but his stereo was trashed.

It's really hard to get it back together.
Parts and pieces go flying everywhere.

I remember too that our stereo has no auxiliary input, so you can open up your head unit and solder audio cable wires to the output of the CD player.

Then you record a blank CD to play while you input sound through the stereo mini-plug that's plugged into your sound source.

You just start the blank CD after it's done playing.

Hmmm... was there any "smoke" with that "heat" that caused the "sticky" motors to start working? 🤣😂

That is entirely possible!!

And my CD player has decided to stop working again.??

I'll try it again tomorrow.
Maybe I'll turn up the furnace, or try my blow dryer, or blow some magic smoke in it. Lol

Continuing with the off-topic in a sense - I had a similar issue with my folks' old Sony stereo and looking it up, the laser has the potential to get "weak" over time and adjusting the trimpots might help. I know nothing about how to correctly do this and may have borked the poor thing up further...

I remember a guy that his factory stereo screw up in some way.
He just gave it a good smack and it started working. Lol

Some stereos have a little recessed reset button that you push with a pin or pencil to reset the head unit.

I didn't see one on our stereo though.

The laser can burn out too, but you'd think that the unit would just eject the CD?

I found this audio error code.
It sounds like your problem.

Unfortunately, it looks like replacing the CD player is the only option.

Maybe clearing the code and trying to get it to eject may work?

All cleaned up! I also polished the hood and wet sanded and polished the rear spoiler.
