blown engine

lol i like how ppl can say the motors good for 400hp when no one has made it above 350 yet haha. id like to hear a explination of why the motor blew from some of the people that claim these motors are forged from the factory haha

The rods and crank ARE forged from the factory. the most probable cause for the motor blowing is detonation caused by a lack of fuel (which can happen to even the most built motors). the lack of fuel could be caused by either a faulty fuel pump or a bad stock tune with our schizophrenic ecu's (or a combo of both).

stock motors have blown, but yet other motors have held 325+ whp with no problems, which is more evidence that it is detonation that is killing these motors.

It's already been announced awhile ago that the rods and pistons aren't forged, I don't know where you're getting your sources from. Mazda advertised the DISI engine as having forged interals in error.

I was thinking the same thing. The new Evolution is looking really nice right about now, but I am sure they have problems also.

True but I wouldn't feel like I needed to do anything with the EVO that would Void my warranty and have me freaking out if I had to go to the dealership for service. With the Mazda I'm afraid to even go to the dealership out of fear they might void my entire warranty over a short shifter or something like that.

Seems like Mazda already forked over so much $$ in repairing these cars under warranty due to faulty motor mounts, etc that they are just looking for excuses to void warranties.

I'm keeping mine. You know why? I'm not swayed by a few examples. Not in the least. I don't know how any of these cars were cared for. I don't know the maintenance history. I don't know anything about the users reporting them.
I'm not saying these stories are untrue. I'm just saying that out of 10000 or so cars out there, a few bad apples aren't spoiling the bunch for me.
Let's say 10% of the mazdaspeed 3 owners are members here. That's 1000 people. A few have engine problems. So 5-10 out of 1000?

Personally, I like my odds.

im sticking with my speed3 after i get the engine fixed lol. they are really great cars to have and people dont expect what they can do so its even better.

he's a trooper! :D

oh, and +1 to swampass' post. i bought my 07 last july, so it's right in that crazy spot where all the recalls and BS could be applying to me, but due to the laws of probability, i'm still clean! yes, our car has had issues, but no, it's not going to affect the majority of us near-stock MS3 owners.

as a Mazda Owner all i have to say, Mazda SUCKS @ss, these is really far away from being a good Japanese car, look at Honda's, Toyota's, Mitsubishi's. Mazda is a real disappointment in every aspect, their cars are build with crap quality materials, poor engineering, and their dealers are the worst, they don't have qualified technicians, qualified personnel and they don't treat their customers as they should do, to be very honest i rather to own a Honda than a Mazda, even though i love my car but that's after spending 25k to fix my MSP weaknesses and make it stronger and better. i went with 2 new engines, 2 transmission, new brake rotors, stabilizer bars, radio, sub-woofer, seats, 2 turbos etc with only 15k miles, after all of these BS my car being in Mazda more time instead being with me i decided to not to take it anymore to the dealer honestly my car had always come out worst and something new breaking just right after the dealer worked on it. they have no idea how to fix their own cars, and at least in Ocean Mazda where i bought my MSP they didn't even had the right tools to diagnose and fix their own cars, final conclusion if you want a fast, bigger , better and stronger Mazda put a s*** load of money on it or just sell it and get something better, and better engineered. and for those that think MS3 is the fastest out there, you guys are forgetting about the new 2008 Cobalt SS turbo, 260 hp and according to the reviews is going to be the faster and best under 25k Sport Compact Including cool unique features. at these point i rather to own any other Stock Car than a Stock Mazda, simple is not worth the BS with the warranties and the BS excuses they are putting when their cars keep on breaking because of their poor design and engineering !!!

X2 For all we konw these people with blown engines may not be telling the whole story. Also,
If you dont have a good relationship with your dealership service dept about your mods and warranty dont mod your car. I must be one of the lucky few.

Hondas....torque converter failers, failing syncros, lots of transmission replacements.

toyota doesn't offer a small performance car, so it's moot.

Mitsubishi....seriously? haha.

Mazda is not the flag ship for reliability. Honda isn't either. Mitsubishi is probably close to last in that race.

These are machines. Machines break.

I think all cars have their flaws. Someone mentioned the S2000 a bit ago. I bet they have no clue that the rearend in the S2000 is made out of straw. People are scared to launch them because Honda will not replace it under warranty.

The MazdaSpeed 3 is a great car. There will always be some cars that have problems. At least the MS3 didn't have the problems the RX8 did when it came out.

I know a guy that has a boosted honda, and they still covered parts under warranty, The way they look at it is that the dealership is still making money. Why would you turn away business. Seems like mazda is good at turning away business. The dealer should want to repair the car under warranty, they should push mazda to warrant the vehicle, it brings them money.

If something is going to happen with the engine blowing and the car is stock its going to happen within a couple months of you buying the car. It was probably a fuel pump issue not enough fuel getting into the engine causing detonation. I would worry about your motor blowing if you had it for a while, so selling the car before something happening doesn't make much sense. Plus the new evolutions are ugly get an evo XI.

Amazing to see the lack of any understanding of statistics based on some comments....

Cant wait till someone posts how the reason for his engine blowing was the motor mount... and I love how some are already assuming Mazda wont cover it under warranty (Why wouldnt they? its friggin stock? You can be pissed all you want about some with modds getting voided but please stop assuming Mazda is voiding everyones warranty based on a few cases)

Some of you read 1 post about XYZ thing going wrong and assume ALL cars will have XYZ thing go wrong... amazing....
