Nice. Anything is an upgrade from the stockers. They are just turrible. What are they going to look like when you get them re-covered? Or is that a surprise too?

hopefully they will be a nice dual tone black leather and suede just waiting to hear back from the guy that does all my interior work to let me know pricing and time. Need to do the front and rear seats to match.

Sweet. I love my buddies MS3 seats. I can't wait to see them when they're all done. (2thumbs)

So with the seats, im guessing you have to fabricate some custom rails?? And do they have side airbags?

Im considering doing the swap over to MS3 seats, or proper Mazdaspeed seats from Japan (already have a set of front Recaro Rails), just want to know whats involved ;)

i used the brackets from the OEM protege5 seats and the rails off the MZ3 seats. it took about 5 hours per side to drill the rivets/spot welds and prep the brackets, plus all the time in and out of the car with rails and brackets making sure they fit properly and were even. Once i was happy with the rails i bolted the seats to them and bolted them into the car to make sure they were even with each other and level. then i removed them again once i tightened down all the bolts holding the brackets and took the rails off again and prepped all the brackets and rails for welding. welded the brackets to the rails since i don't just trust the bolts, sprayed them black so they look like new and you would never know i changed them.

they do have side airbags and heated seats which I'm still debating the airbags. I know its easy to hook up the heated seat wires and seat belt wires just have to look around and see how the airbags tie into the MZ3 system and see if they will be functional or removed when i recover the seats.

few pics from over the weekend and past week. found my share of rust in the engine bay so had to deal with that before it became any worst, also have a bit of time to clean things up before my parts start showing back up that were sent out to be customized/coated by Signature Products.

what needed to be fixed before i cleaned the bay..

After a weekend full of working on only those few spots the bay now looks like this and is ready to be put back together once the parts arrive.

^ Yup. Now MY P5 on the other is a total rust bucket. haha

Looking good, man. Keep the pics coming. (2thumbs)

What did you use to rust-proof the inside of the wheel wells? I hope I said that right, behind where your wheels live lol? Mine are so faded and light grey, I would love to darken them up and protect them

Man I swear I would cry if I saw rust like that in my car.

haha thanks, it was a bad sight to see but the car is worth the little bit of extra work to make it last as long as possible.

You think that Mazda purposely made the P5 out of rust?? Conspiracy! lol

not just the P5 all the Mazdas i see around here in the winter are full of rust..

I cleaned off all the metal in the wheel wells with a wire brush. (all the suspension and breaks were out of the way) then followed the instructions in the POR-15 kit i bought that was a 3 step system. I bought larger quantities that are included in the starter kit. I did both sides at the same time since it was easier for me, also did most of my floor inside and out as well as the hatch. Ordered some more materials so that i can do the inside of my fenders(f&R) before i put them back on the car. I topcoated all of the visible POR-15 with black bedliner as the POR-15 is sensitive to UV light and must be top coated for prolonged exposure to sunlight. Failure to do this may result in long-term damage to the POR-15 coating

You're the man. Thanks for the help, and as always, you've got one of the, if not the best looking P5 out there
