Berty's Cosmo

Berty,

is it 2nd hand this pan-speed ecu or new,, and how much did it cost you?
it will be interesting to see what changes it makes to the car like taking off the speed limiter and fuel cut etc
keep us posted !!

Berty

forgot to ask you,,, the side skirs you got on the Mazdaspeed kit does it have the illuminated cosmo logo version??

check out my latest update I have posted pics of the 2 styles

Regards

Hey Frank, I still don't have that part of the side skirts in my possession. The seller dropped it off today, but it was missing a couple of bits that he left at work. From the pictures I saw of the car, they do look like the illuminated version.

I bought the ECU used. I did not even know that Panspeed made a 20B ecu as I have never seen one come up for sale other than the RE-Amemiya versions. After the very short drive I did today, I am curious to see how it goes on the dyno. Once I stop being so lazy, I will datalog the ignition maps etc and compare it to the factory maps.

Well done Berty, keep us posted on the ECU and if the skirts are the illuminated ones Antoine wont be happy ha ha !!

Here are some pics of the ECU for you Frank. It is pretty similar to the RE-Amemiya ECU internally, it seems to have the same rider board and a set of EPROMS. The outside of the ECU has no real useful markings apart from the Panspeed stickers on it.

The extra wiring loom is for the Emanage Ultimate.

I also painted my inlet manifold and other inlet pipes in VHT crinkle coat. Here is a quick picture to give you an idea how it looks....

Nice one Berty it will be interesting to see what benefits you gain out of the panspeed unit,,

I think the plenum has come out pretty good did you paint it in situ or did you take it off to do it ?,, I was thinking of going the polished route,, it would be good if u
could get a chemical cleaner for the plenum and hard pipes that brings it back to the original look I would be happy with that,, I have done a little detailing under the hood myself recently mainly cleaning looks a lot better its all the engine ancillaries that need painting or cleaning to detail it more,, one day maybe

Nice...Details please! Got any videos as well?

I've just been keeping my Cosmo healthy...No time for serious mods these days...Got plenty in my mind though, hopefully in the future.

Thanks for the update, Berty! (2thumbs)

No videos as of yet, but I have got it to start and idle on the factory computer. It has made the car a lot louder than it was - seems like the twins absorbed a lot of sound energy.

Here are the specs;
  • Garrett T04E 0.7 A/R front and 1.15 rear. (opted to go smaller than the 1.32 I previously had)
  • Falcon BA Turbo XR6 thermo fans and Davies Craig digital controller. (sooo much better than the previous set-up)
  • Turbosmart Pro-Gate 48
  • South Coast Rotary manifold
  • Braided lines
  • Xtreme Rotaries block-off kit.
  • Innovate LC-1 and XD16 wideband.
  • 3.5" dump pipe

I still need to put the fuel system and computer back in to tune it, but it is driveable in its current form with very safe AFR's so long as it doesn't go above 4K RPM.

Hi Berty

keep us posted with more pics as well,, when are you planning on a re-map and to find out what she is pushing out with all the mods

Regards
Frank

At the moment I am pulling out the current ECU setup so I can go full standalone. It is going to have to be dyno'ed before I can drive it so I will post up the results when it happens. I will be happy with anything above 300rwkw.

Fun times...

It is pretty amazing how heat takes it toll on wiring and electrical components. To give you an idea, nearly all of the connectors on the factory harness are brittle to the point were they crumble in your hands in you apply any force.

One of the more in interesting things though was when I have stripped back factory wires, the copper wires are actually corroded - not badly but enough that solder wont stick to them unless you give everything a quick sand.

Anyway, for the most part the wiring is complete. I just have the CAS to go now. One of the main headaches has been needing to retain the factory ECU and to piggyback some signals. If I could just rip the factory loom out things would be much cleaner.

Still messy but getting there slowly.

I also made a custom bracket for the new coils which includes a fuse box for the new ECU features and a bunch of relays.

Install is looking fairly neat so far... electrical cable conduit is a great thing. 8--)
