Autocross in-car video from May 12

:
2010 Mazda 6s
I ran in a charity race this weekend. It involved an autocross, drag race and car show. I absolutely loved the autocross course. Here are a couple in car videos:

This one was my fastestrun at 1:01.6. I was a little cautious in areas to keep it clean.
Run4

This should have been my best run, but I got into ice mode when I'm pretty sure I got all 4 wheels off the ground going into the 180 degree corner in the middle of the course (Can't wait to see the photographers pictures from that section). Then I pushed too hard at the end because I was using the free run to find the limit of the car in those sections.
Run3

edit: This was a street tire event so I was on some Hankooks from last year.

Nice to see you doing some parking lot racing :D

That second video is hilarious, heh. Those jumps are way dukes of hazard style too.

Wish we had parking lots that big around here! Nice vid! Your passenger needs a neck brace! :D

Nice vid. You are a very smooth driver.
Looks like an AWESOME course!! Much better than the 35 second barely-second-gear crap i had to deal with last weekend.....

nice runs. Was it just me, or did it look like the car was pushing a bit?

Most of that was me overdriving into the corners and some was brake issues. I'm going to pull the ABS fuse from now on.

The car did understeer a little, but I'm hoping that was because I went to -2 degrees camber in the front since the event included a drag race and autocross. I will go to -3 for the rest of the season.
I am going to corner weight and align it next week. Then I have a test and tune next weekend to set the rear swaybar and shock settings. I'm pretty confident it will get substantially quicker.

looks like the rear wheels came off the ground under braking in the 180 so i would say that would freak out any abs system.

Your lines look pretty good, but you can tell you don't autocross nearly as much as you track.

Looks like you can't really stretch the car's legs much either. I have the same frustration with my VW lol :)

just got the nittos hope they work well for me too! let me know if there should be anything I need to know spechal about breaking them in or storage or if that compound spray works on theis tires (since there not exactly slicks). Thanks hope to see you out on the track.

I just wanted to note, this autocross was on my old Hankook street tires. The Nittos would have gripped a lot better, but I had to run street tires.
Nothing too special to know about them except pressures. I had the best results at MidOhio with 34 psi all around hot. I started at 26 F and 28 R cold. My car weighs somewhere around 2800 lbs with driver. I went right out and ran hard on them. I have six 20 minute sessions and around 120 miles on the street and they look pretty much new. I'll be running them next weekend at a test and tune, autocross and track day (Nelson Ledges) so I'll have more feedback after then.

Here are a couple pictures:

Look at the second picture above this. I'd say you were right about the brakes!

34! 34! yeah right. maby for you but I near ripped the sides of my new tires off. I started out that way then pushed all the way till 45 front and 34 rear. great felling tires plenty of braking and half the tourqe steer. wasent getting my best times but as I was getting close to finding my PSI I pushed into the front of a rumble strip and bent my front end link. after that I just had fun with a STI as we dominated the track (slow ass porsches).

What are your alignment settings? I had about -2 camber in the front at Mid-Ohio and am now at -3. I was slipping and sliding up around 45 psi. 34 just felt planted and it showed in the lap times. Also, what is your rim width and tire size? I am running 225/45/17 on a 7" wide rim. Do you happen to have any pictures of your car on track? It would be nice to see how much it is leaning and losing camber. My car does not roll much with the stiff springs and large rear swaybar.

slow server!

no im still approx -2

15X7 (gives a good round sholder)

I have a stiff rear swaybar not too much body roll (gingerman isint easy on tires to start with) I have ground control coil over springs.... dont know what the rate is though

sounds like i should get more camber in the front. how whould I obtain that? top plates or with thoes lobe bolts or could i get that on stock parts???

p.s. thanks for the help(bowdown)

For me, the camber is easy because the K-Sports came with camber plates. When I was running on the stock shocks I used the camber bolts to get more camber. They worked well for me.
225/45/15 on a 15x7 should be fine. Looking at the pictures of the sidewall, I would think it has to be the car rolling too much. I am at 500 lb/in front and 450 lb/in rear with the AWR rear swaybar basically on full stiff. I'm not sure where the normal Ground Controls are but probably 250 to 300 lb/in. I think another degree of camber in the front would be a huge help to you.
I have a friend who is going to Grattan with a couple of us for the sole purpose of tracking tire pressures and temps on our cars so I'll have a lot of temperature data after this weekend to make a better determination of just how much camber is needed. I'll definitely share that here.

sweet sounds good! all the pics i have are just straight. but I will see about getting some more camber in the front. was thinking of obtaining some camber plates but, I think I need some better wheels first I keep boiling the brake fluid. peice by peice I get there.

thanks
