Armor All is EVIL

Just think about it from a business perspective. Why would they sell something that ruins your car? It gives them no advantage to do that. Maybe they had some formulation issues during a certain time and maybe caused some damage, but I guarantee you it is not the case today. Or maybe for certain materials its not the best thing to use. If a certain car has some issues (like the one on this thread) it may be because of the specific material that was used. That is why they say on the back to try in an inconspicuous area first. Trust me... It's a rumor, and I doubt that you personally know 15 people who use armor all and have had cracked dashes.

or perhaps its a marketing scheme. once you use it you have to keep using it kinda thing.

Not trying to jump on you about this, but this has been posted so many times and it is just rediculous.

Simple: My dash was fine. This is not the first Mazda Product I've owned and every one before it always had some squeak or rattle. My previous 2001 Protege had this annoying rattle above my head in the sunroof area. I was amazed that the 3 was so tight and rattle free.

After the Armor All was applied everything was OK, it was only after it dried up that the squeaks occured. You maybe correct the 3's plastics may not take kindly to Armor All. But that does not change the fact that my interior is squeaking and I'm not happy. I spoke to the dealer today and they told me to bring it in and they would take care of it.

I have no bones to pick with te dealer. They were trying to do a NICE thing. I just know that one of the most attractive qualities about the three and one of the reasons it feels so much like an Audi or Volkswagen is due to it's extrmely solid structure and decnt quality plastics. Hearing squeaks just takes away a modicum of that perceived quality.

Oh yeah and I do use the Purple Armor All wipes. They work very well and don't dry out the plastic.

I actually think I have a bottle of the 303 Protectant but was always afraid to use it becasue I figured it would dry out the plastic.

Thats illegal
cigarette companies do it everyday. and many companies would sell a product that may cause damage to your car because it is most likely a)cheap to make b)has a loyal following c)you can sell it at a few times higher than it cost you to make it without people complaining much

Yup, armor all is garbage. I've heard/read/seen for years the havoc it wreaks on dashboards. All those cracked dashboards you see in the junkyard...odds are armor all is to thank.
I've heard alot of praise for this "aerospace protectant", which you can buy at [of all places] marine/boat shops. Aerospace stuff at a boat shop (uhm)

I'll never use that crap (armor all). I'd be upset with the dealer. Sure they cleaned it without asking you. But on the same token, they cleaned it without your authorization, and in the process, did more harm than good.
i like armor all, i havent had any problems yet and no squeks, i use armor all and a rich leather cleaner to clean the whole interior of my car (rockon)

Hey, to each their own. You armor all fans keep on using it. Best of luck to you.
As for myself, I will continue not using armor all. (2thumbs)

I hate Armor All, it made my dash and other trim look like s***. Crazy stupid streaks and discolorations. I immedialtely switched to Meguires protectant and it works great.

So to the guy who said its impossible for Armor All to be bad, its not.

Maybe your seats squeak becaus e Armor All is not supposed to be used on leather. It is for plastic and vinyl only. Hopefully they everything ends up being ok, I doubt there is any long term damage.

there is nothing wrong with armor all.. people are so gullible!

if armor all did damage, they wouldnt sell it.

I not denying that cigarette companys don't do this, I am just saying that they have billions of dollars to back it up. Armor All/STP is tiny in comparison. You have to realize that a company cannot knowingly sell a product that does damage. This rumor about them has been going around for a long time and if it were true there would have been a class action suit against them before and their company would not survive something like that. I see on your profile that you are only 18. If you are going to college this year, try taking some business courses, especially business law. After you learn about the Kennedy Administration, The Federal Trade Commission, Consumer Protection Laws you will then understand what I am trying to say. Company's just don't knowingly commit corporate suicide to sell some cheap products.

yes they would, because business is all about making money. they use to say the same thing about cigarettes.....

Having managed a detailing shop, I've done a lot of research concerning the care of a car, inside and out. I don't have a particular problem with ArmorAll, except for the way it makes plastic surfaces oily and actually attracts dust. I've used it for years on several of the 13 cars I've owned, without a single problem (except the dust issue). It's a handy tool to have around when you have small imperfections that you want to camoflauge on your interior surfaces, or if you just like that super-oily appearance.
The first thing you should know about ArmorAll protectant is that you should NEVER use it on leather. Armor all is basically a low-level sealer, and isn't good for materials that need to breathe. The only products you should ever use on leather are conditioners and cleaners that are specifically forumulated for leather. Leather continues to breathe and cure as it ages, and ArmorAll adds NOTHING to organic materials (like leather) but an oily sheen that actually does more harm than good. Would you apply ArmorAll to your body, as opposed to a good moisturizing lotion? No. Leather is SKIN - albeit, it's no longer alive, but still has a lot of the same requirements as live skin. It's no longer producing it's own moisturizers - you need to do that for it. Do your seats a favor and clean them of the ArmorAll, and then treat them with a good leather conditioner.

This next statement is purely opinion - the plastic surfaces in the 3 look MUCH better if they're just cleaned with water. The dash in particular is so large (for a car this size) and multi-textured that IMO, just doesn't look good if it's all oily and shiny (and streaked). I haven't experienced what you're experiencing, because on the cars that I did use ArmorAll on, I used it regularly so I never saw the 'withdrawal' problems that others seem to. If I were you, I'd take a wet (more than just damp, but not dripping) microfiber towel, and a dry one, and start cleaning it off everything. That big-ol' black dash just can't look good with an oily sheen on it.

Another IMO - I love ArmorAll Ultra Shine on my tires.

Thank You, It nice to have some support around here. Armor all works very well on paint. My front door to my house was all faded and I used Armor All and now it looks almost brand new.

I also like armor all because it is shiney. It makes the car look freshly detailed. I clean my car every week so the dust isn't too much of an issue for me.
