I was looking at buying some parts for a 2.3 ford focus but I was just wondering how alike are the two motors?

The motors aren't similar at all. They run different compression, I believe the ford doesn't have the vvt and that is just the beginning. I have heard some people say that some of the parts will work and others will not. Some will throw cel's becuase they aren't made for our cars. But it's really up to you. I would just wait until someone manufactures whatever part you are looking for for our car.

well here is a list I am looking for....

intake manifold**turbo manifold**downpipe**Big Bore Throttle Body**

SOunds like a sweet list...only thing I can tell you is that corksport.com is selling an intake mani for the 3....but havent heard if anyone's tried it yet...Go to the site, click mazda3, and go to the second group of links, click on other(ithink)...if not try them all its in there..by corksport for like $700

let me know if/when you find the rest of that list!

They are very similar and do not run different compression. Most parts will not work because of the body style. Throttle bodies are different, ours on the 2.3L is drive-by-wire(electronic) and theirs is cable, noone has checked to see if the electronics of ours will bolt on to the focus throttle body.
Yes we have VVT so the cams are different. Pulleies are different, we have 2 belts because of the different A/C compressor location. The Cosworth intake manifold has been said to bolt up, but need tuning to get the most gains out of it. But Cosworth also has been said to make kits for the Mazda3 in the near future. Headers have yet to be tested, but will probaly be interchangeable with one company and not others. But the flanges for the header is the same so a turbo manifold for the Focus 2.3L should fit depending on the placement of the turbo, but it will bolt up. Intakes will not work, because of the MAF sensor and the different body styles.
I have most if not all of the parts out and the only Focus part I have is the Balance Shaft Delete Kit.

Parts I wanna see checked out are the throttle bodies. I'm not sure if the 2.0L guys have the cable or the drive-by-wire, if they have the cable the Focus throttle body "should" bolt up. I wanna know if the MAF sensors can be swapped for the bigger units coming out once there is a tuning solution.

well i'm going to try and fit the focus manifold on my car... I bought a turbo manifold for the 2.3 for 125 bucks so I'm going to try with that first...

What if you try to use the the Mazda3 throttle body on the cosworth intake mani? Would that defeat the purpose? Would that even work? I was looking at the pic but I dont see a TB on the mani they are selling...

Well you would be adding a bottle neck and won't get all of the gains possible. You shpuld still get gains though, you wouldn't get the crazy throttle response with the stock TB. I pretty sure they recommend a 65mm TB.
