2017~2024 ALL SEASON vs WINTER TIRES

Oh no! Not another law. I drive north of I90 I have snow tires and like them a lot. I never run worn out tires because it is my car and my life, but the last thing we need in NY is another law.

Laws require enforcement, enforcement requires taxes or fines (A tax) Taxes force people to leave.
Taxpaying New Yorkers are leaving in droves for other states, according to a new study.

In 2014, 126,000 New York tax filers fled to other places in the United States — more than from any other state, according to the study posted on newgeography.com by two demographers.

The Empire State also lost the most “high earners,” who reported incomes of more than $200,000 a year.

“New York has been leading the nation in domestic migration for decades,” Wendell Cox, who co-authored the study, told the Albany Times Union.

Hi fdew,
To add to your comment, the other two neighboring states CT and NJ, make the trio with most people leaving their states for a promised land!![emoji3]

Another problem with those leaving the CN/NJ/NY area is they don't leave the ideas that brought them to the point of leaving in the first place behind when they leave. Colorado is another fine example of a state becoming infected with imported ideas from failing states.

Why should we pay someone to do what one should do anyway? If I lived in a Sunshine State, how is it fair to them to pay for someone to use snow tires in a snow state?

Lots and lots of people are a) lazy and/or b) cheap and/or c) ignorant so if it can be made a bit more palatable/affordable/eye opening for people to try them (even at my expense) I'd do it.
State income tax deduction..ie no impact on sunshine state residents. I'd support this even if I was discluded based on income.

Tired of this attitude. This is why we can't have nice things.
For the common good.

This is why we can't have Universal Healthcare. "He smokes, why should we pay for his heart surgery?"
For the common good.

"I don't have kids, why do I have to pay for school?" I paid school taxes for a long time. I didn't have kids.
For the common good.

You pay for a LOT of stuff in your taxes today that you don't use.

Sorry... WAY OT. ;)

Tell me about it. These days I call this state Colofornia. But especially places like Denver and Boulder. Downright pisses me off as I love this state.

It boggles my mind. So you'd leave Commiefornia because of it's failures and then do exactly the same crap here that led to the problems that made you leave Commiefornia. Eh....

Ooh 7 although you raise some good points- now you're bringing out the red in me..see winter tire use not only helps the user, it helps everyone. Paying for some fat self abusing bastard's heart surgery- I do happen to have a problem with and I also think people w/no kids (or none attending public school) should pay a less percentage in school taxes. Common good (with accountability and fairness ok) communism/socialism bad. Should someone with say a .2 BAC be able to start up and operate a vehicle endangering themselves but more importantly others...no ******* way. Should seniors or hell 50+ have to prove they're still with it and road worthy every idk 5 years or so- why the hell not!!

(iagree)

The Libertarian in me agrees.

Who defines what is the common good?

To me public schools are useless and more money isn't the problem. I might be biased on this one. I detest public school system with a passion.

Universal healthcare? I'm gonna just leave that one alone...

Other stuff? Depends.

Sorry! Don't really mean to go there. LOL

(We already pay a lot of tax...we should have more things then we do...and I don't mean a border wall)

I'm also good with less tax. :D

To me the government is the most inefficient use of our money. Such a waste.

But I digress.

I think the tire companies should drop the "all season" mantra. It gives people that one-size-fits all mentality with false security when all seasons are nothing but a skimpy compromise for really bad driving conditions versus good driving conditions.

^^Great point Madar!..I was thinking exactly that yesterday actually..I mean its never gonna happen (replaced with?) but no question this is a big factor into why a lot of people never think to even try a winter tire- I already have all seasons no need. Some are definitely good enough that I would get behind that label, trouble is sooo many still are not.

All season tires have their place. I'm sorry but it is nonsense to only have two tire categories, them being summer and winter tires. In North Texas, during winter, the day could start out very cold, like below 40s where summer tires are already hard and have less grip. Then as the day progresses, it will warm up to the point where it sometimes goes higher than 60. Are you telling me I need to put on winter tires in the morning and then switch to summer tires later in the day? That is just not practical. Like I said, all season tires have their place. Now if you are going to send me money to pay for my winter tire/wheel set and my tire rotations, I'm all for it, I'll give you my paypal email address.

Valid point. I'm not talking about situations like yours. I understand different geographic locations have different needs. Yes, all seasons have there place, but not where winter driving could stay treacherous for a long time. Come up north where it might stay in the 20s for a few weeks and see how well your all seasons stick to ice. There is a big difference in how the tire performs. And no, I'm not saying anyone should force you to change anything.

No absolutely not Finch! My forecast high is 32F Fri, low is 17F Veterans Day morning and I'm one of the few people in my area that I know/see ever running winter tires. Wonder why it takes me 2.5 hours to get home when its snows? People are:
A) Lazy and/or B) Cheap and likely C) at least somewhat ignorant/lulled into complacency by the 'all season' moniker

...D) drive too fast because they think their all season tires are good enough...
