ACT Street Clutch

i have some pics of my install

And I must say, the act street kit, is one of the best investment Ive done.

It holds very strong up to 10psi (what I have tested), Im sure it holds even more.

No chatter, engagement is just as soft as usual but a bit sooner, very friendly. Pedal is 30% stiffer.

I had a Bully Stage 2 on my 98 Z24 and it was awesome, but the shop that changed the motor missed a bolt or somthing because chattering started soon after. Otherwise the shop that put the clutch in ( and rebuilt tranny) did an amazing job. The bully would pull my Z24 up any hill at 1000RPM - no gas. The pedal pressure increased by atleast 30%, and yes my left calf is bigger than the right one.

I recommened a stage 2 clutch to anyone wanting better performance than their stock one. Also, an organic clutch plate is preferable due to it being a little kinder on your flywheel when engaging. Whatever you do, don't get an aluminum flywheel, it WILL warp.

I will tell you this. I have had my ACT clutch for 2 years now. No problems! I even have had the Fidanza Flywheel in for the same amount of time. Tell that to the person who fed you that :bs: Just don't abuse it.

ok guys thanks for all the opinions, im definately getting it. anyway screw that tranny place, they said 325 labor, 75 for flywheel resurfacing, and 168.10 for a stock clutch.

i think i will buy the ACT and have me and a good friend tear it apart.

If you don't already have it, get the Shope Manual from Mazda and follow it to the letter.

I had to use the 626 chilton manual because the protege shop manual doesnt have all the torque specs....plus its very detailed (lots of tricks)

Ya, it's kinda what I meant... if you get an alum. flywheel, don't race the damn thing or else excessive heat will build up and then it may warp your flywheel. If you don't excessively BEAT your motor or race it for long periods, then you should be fine.

However, I am one of those who will be hard on the car for extended periods of time, not beat the car mind you, and end up with this lame ass warping flywheel.... no thanks, don't need the hassle or the extra whatever pounds taken off...

I just wanted someone to think about the warping flywheel factor since were already talking about clutches....

agreed.. i love the feel an the earlier engagement.

or does anyone want to organize a group buy?

i know me and another guy would be down for one, so you and maybe like a few others we can maybe get a good discount.

options auto carries act too, they were good prices when i bought one for my dsm (but i got extra off, so they were really good prices for me). they don't list it on their site for protege's but i'm sure they could order it if you asked

procarparts.com a member on this board had them at a really good price b4.. search to see if the GB is still open.
