Acetone!!!

Well I tried Acetone in my last tank of gas and it seems to be working great. I am normally about 120 miles to half tank, I drive fast everywhere, and this tank I am at 185 with no change in climate or driving habits. (dance) Not to mention my oil needed to be changed. I picked some up at Walmart for like 12 bucks a gallon and added about 4.3 oz to my tank when I filled up. Car drives smoother and seems to run a little cooler too. My idle is smoother as well. I am happy with the results and will keep doing it. If I could suggest a method to put it in I would get an empty fuel additive container and fill it with that. Do not use plastic it will eat it up in pure form. The article I read on the forum said between 25% & 45% better mileage dep. on driving habits.

What about any rubber or plastic parts that it can come in contact with, though? Plastic fuel tank liner, fuel lines, etc. I would think that it could melt something since it's used to melt fingernail polish off fingernails.

miata octane booster

Toluene (114 octane) or Xylene (117 octane) can be used. I have used toluene - 1 gal per tank of gas - and it raises your octane level as per this formula:

(gal in tank * pump gas octane) + (gal of toluene * 114) / total size of tank = new octane

So, for a Miata with a 12.5 gal tank, 1 gal of toluene and 92 octane pump gas you get:

(11.5 * 92) + (1 * 114) / 12.5 = 93.76

FWIW, increasing the octane level in your fuel will only decrease the engines tendency to knock. It will not add more 'power' to the fuel. To increase the fuels 'power' capacity you need to add something that oxygenates the fuel.

Acetone just makes the gasoline vaporize better so you are burning more of the fuel in the cylinder. The graphs on that page I linked above tell a lot if it's accurate.

I tried it on Silicon and abs plastic and it had hardly any effects if any. The tubes and connectors that feed into the gas tank are better suited to take highly corrosive things I guess, maybe because of the high octane fuel by the thousands of gallons that will be put in it over its life. I am very happy with the way my car is running. Not to mention the butt dyno seems to feel a little difference. Oh yeah !!! and your exhaust will smell better. Don't ask, maybe its the unburned fuel that you don't smell. I recommend it highly.

Well, if you have less unburned fuel, yes, your exhaust won't stink as much.

Yeah I know, but I need more mileage and I seem to be getting it. I don't expect any HP gains but it does run smoother.

P.S. I just got done talking to my father-in-law who is an engineer for Honeywell. Actually he is the lead engineer on the new Joint Strike Fighter program, and one of the developers of our Garrett T-25 turbo. I can tell you a story if you want on how I found out about that one. He said that has been something they have used for years and that you should be fine and it have "no measurable effect" on any parts that it comes in contact with. He just warned, "DON'T GET IT ON THE PAINT."

No not that I, or any of the people I have talked to or research that i had read had any damage. Oddly enough, in my research I did find that any bad pr that it got came in some way or another from one of the big gas companys. I can see why. If my dadin law oks it its golden in my book. That guy is a genious.

I've searched around quite a bit on it and I haven't read anything about anyone having problems with it. I think it's just one of those things where you would think that putting something in your gas tank that melts plastic and rubber is going to be bad, but it's such a small percent that there's really no effect.
