7500 first oil change?

I know some cars have special oil in them from the factory that helps the rings settle in, etc... Does anyone know if there's a reason to wait until 7500 miles for the first oil change? Did a search and couldn't find anything about any special oil being used in Mazdas from the factory...

When I rebuilt my VW engine, I first ran it for about 20 minutes varying the throttle up and down every 60 seconds or so, then replaced the oil. I then replaced it after about 100 miles, then again at 1000, then started in with the every 2000 miles and eventually I will taper off at 3K miles. Obviously the VW was built with greater tolerances than the MS6, so there will be more initial wearing of engine parts, but I'm a stickler for these things.

I don't like the idea of a new engine with parts initially wearing down only getting the oil changed at 7500 miles initially... I plan to use the mazda-OEM filter and Mobil 1 in this car. Is there any reason I shouldn't change the oil at like 2000 miles and then again at 5000 before getting the 7500 service? Would that defeat the purpose of any special oil they put in the car from the factory?

Thanks...

FWIW, I had the oil/filter changed by the dealer at about 700 miles with their standard oil grade (I didn't have the time to do it myself).

At 3000, I changed the oil/filter and filled with Mobil1 5W-30. I plan to change the oil again at 8500, then 15000, then every 7500 thereafter.

I wouldn't go 7500 on the initial fill. The most wear occurs during engine break-in.

yeah, I did my first change at 1000 miles, another at 3,000 miles.. and then every 5k after that on synthetic

driving up to 3000-5000 miles is ok with the original oil since all the 6's engines are aluminum, they don't contaminate as quickly as iron block engines... 7500 miles is for the "normal" duty schedule, which should be ignored because practically NO one meets those very specific conditions to qualify under it

Got the MS6!

Dealer gave me their own booklet for service, which includes 1K service, 5K service, and then they recommend every 5 after that... He said do NOT use synthetic... I asked why, and he said that's what he was told by the service department and he'd look into it...

Weird, right?

On another note, I LOVE MY MS6!!!!! (mj)

Congrat to your MS6 stillflat4, Now we want pics :)

Yes, here in OZ, the car is serviced for the 1000K but the oil change isn't compusary, only if customer requesting it. Then it will be every 5000K or 6 months whichever happens first.

Thanks! Pics forthcoming, hopefully on the weekend... Hmmm... wonder if they wife would be upset if I splurged on a new digital camera? :)

Bought one for $60 two years ago -- a 1.1MP Pentax -- for when I took the engine apart in my VW so I'd know how to put it all back together again in case I forgot something. Works great for ebay postings, but not so great for "beauty pics."
