7 SUV's that will be banned in 2026 -- scary if true and if implemented.

:
2014 mazda cx-5 touring FWD
Saw this and decided to post this as we drive ( or consider purchasing) other brands) beside Mazda. Right up front --- Mazda is not included and after viewing this we should feel fortunate we own Mazda. The scary part mentioned is that these models can't be registered/registration renewed, dealers won't accept as trade in, private buyers don't want them, owners liable for outstanding loans on vehicles that won't be legal to operate. Insurance companies raising rates. Basically these vehicles are banned from the roadways starting next year and people being blindsided when they discover the car registration won't be renewed.
**** the models weren't listed in a summary below the video so I had to view it in entirety to see what they are.
ETA : It mentions failing CVT transmissions, emissions scam like the long ago VW "dieselgate", some manufacturer buybacks offered at greatly reduced offering, some no help offered at all, and what legislation could leave someone with an expensive "boat anchor" that they're still paying for.

The claim that specific SUVs will be broadly banned in 2026 is fiction. News headlines using the word "banned" are typically based on government regulations that mandate a transition to zero-emission vehicles over a long timeframe, ultimately targeting the sale of new gasoline cars by dates like 2035 in some states and countries, not the removal of existing vehicles from the road in 2026.
Here is a breakdown of the facts:
  • No Ban on Existing SUVs: There are no widespread U.S. federal or state laws that will ban current, functioning SUVs from the road in 2026. The regulations primarily focus on the automotive manufacturers and the composition of new vehicles they sell each year.
  • Regulations on New Sales: States like California and others that follow its Air Resources Board (CARB) mandates have adopted "Advanced Clean Cars II" regulations. These require a specific percentage of new car sales to be zero-emission vehicles, ramping up each year to reach 100% by 2035. This means new car models that do not meet future emissions standards may be discontinued by manufacturers, but not "banned" in the sense of being made illegal to own or drive.
  • Specific Model Discontinuations: Certain vehicle models, including some SUVs, are being discontinued for the 2026 model year due to various factors like slow sales, evolving consumer demand, and manufacturers adjusting their lineups to meet new fuel efficiency and emissions mandates. For example, some models like the Chevrolet Malibu and Kia Soul are being canceled.
  • Misleading Information: Sensationalized headlines on social media and video platforms often use the term "banned" to attract attention, linking to information about discontinued models or long-term climate regulations.
In summary, while the automotive market is changing due to new regulations and manufacturers are adjusting their offerings, existing SUVs will not be "banned" in 2026.

Going by the headline it seemed the usual sensationalized youtube stuff but then it seemed plausible after listening to the reasons. Guess I'm too gullible then. Welp, gotta go buy a bridge some guy wants to sell me.

It would have been good information if not AI. I am still learning to distinguish AI from genuine content. Hate to get worked up by heart warming animal rescue videos.
