6-CD Player showing track info

I have the OEM 6-bay in-dash CD-player w/CX-7 GT edition...but it's not showing anything (ever) for any CD...title, track, listing, etc.

Is this "off" by default (if so, stupid) and how to enable? or do I have a defective unit?

Have tried multiple CDs, and "real" ones, not ones I've made...

thanks for any tips.

I believe that it only works with CDs that you make yourself (fake ones) if you include the song info when creating the CDs. I know that might not make you feel good except to know that it is not defective.

Please tell me this isn't so! You mean I put in a bought CD, and it wont' show up any of the track info???!

If so, this car continues to underwhelm me in the details, lacking features my 7-year trade-in van had.....(pissed)

Yes it's so... but I'm just the messenger.
Now that I think of my Jetta doesn't display any track info either and it's a 2005 1/5 New Jetta. The 2000 Honda Odyssey I traded in didn't either, nor did my 2000 Accord. I would think it would be simple enough to upgrade the software in these newer cars that I own because the radios are flashable. It all comes down to whether the hardware can handle it in the first place and then if they want to mod the firmware. I know they automatically upgraded the firmware in my VW sound system but I don't recall what for.

Honestly, it doesn't bother me but it would have been nice. It's amazing what we have all come to expect in our vehicles. Does anybody remember we used to have to roll up our own windows or have to hold the button down till it opened or closed to the position we wanted?

Here's another pet peeve.... how come my console and glove compartment in my Jetta are airconditioned and my CX7's aren't. Laugh all you want but it keeps my sunglassses and beverage cool. There oughta be a law!

It also depends on whether the record label includes that data in their CD Manufacturing. A LOT of them don't. Just because it comes up on your computer doesn't mean it will come up on a stand-alone player (different technology).

It DOES display MP3 ID Tag information.

to my knowledge, the regular in dash 6 wont show any data of any kind, regardless of cd type etc. I believe the knob that says text/display is in reference to when u have satellite enabled and not CD.

obviously, the mp3 deck will show information. the std 6 disc does not.

I miss this, too. I got in my buddy's '02 Explorer and his radio did CD ame, track information and FM channel name and song info (when provided by the station). My '98 Grand Marquis had that, too. Why not my Miracle BOSE sytem?

there is certain technology that should have been appplied in our car, they just didnt do it and its frustrating. Including CD text and radio info should have really been a no brainer.

I would think on the '08, std mp3 decks, bluetooth, and aux jack will be in this car.

I have a couple of "real" CDs (Wyclef Jean and Destiny's Child) that will show text information. One CD says "Compact Disc Digital Audio Text" on the disc label. I say look for CD's with that imprinted on the label and try them out.

"SOME" CDs (very few) utilize CD-Text where the album and track info are embedded into the header info of the disc. I would tend to suspect that THOSE CDs would display the appropriate data - but other than that... MOST CDs do not have that kind of meta-data encoded.

When you burn your OWN CDs (and enable CD-Text and enter the correct info) or even .MP3 CDs... the meta data does display on the screen.

People that are used to this function on their computer might not know that the info is acquired (usually) from your audio playback software going-out to the internet to check the CDs code against the CDDB (Compact Disc Database) and it retreives the (usually) correct album, artist and track info and it displays. It is NOT because that data is on the disc.
