I have a 2022 2.5L non turbo CX5. At about 20,000 miles and 4,500 since my last oil change I got the low oil indicator notice in the app. Checked the dipstick and yes it was low. I added a quart and I already had an appointment for an oil change at the dealer the next week. They took a look at it and said there were no leaks.
After that I began manually checking the oil ever other gas fill up. At 4,000 I noticed it was getting low and figured in another two weeks the notice would come back so I added about 2/3 a quart. Scheduled an oil change and discussed the issue with the service manager.
The service manager listened and basically said there is a known problem with the turbo models (which I knew) but not the non turbos. He offered to do the oil consumption test ever 1200 miles but did warn me that while he didn’t agree but Mazda would most likely say that a quart ever 4,000 is normal.
Just had my second 1200 mile check and it was normal but the service manager did say that with in the last few weeks Mazda has changed their tune and has told dealers that if the customer is losing oil and they want the seals replaced that it would be covered.
My question is, should I let them do it? I don’t have the most faith in most dealer techs when it comes to tearing an engine down and am concerned they may end up doing more damage then if I just kept adding oil every 4000 miles or so. Or am I just over thinking this and its not that big of a job and should just let them do it?
