I intend to use the OEM oil filter on my vehicle for the first couple of oil changes and then switch to a Fram filter. I remember several different filters are made in different countries. Can someone school me on the OEM filters that my dealer might stock? Thank you Ed

Solution
So you bought a new 2021 CX-5 GTR?

The oil filter from factory on 2.5T is Japanese made Tokyo Roki PY8W-14-302. Unfortunately Mazda North American Operations have stopped supplying PY8W-14-302 since Dec. 2019 and it’s superseded by Thai made Denso 1WPY-14-302.

I wouldn’t use Fram filter, as aftermarket oil filters are one size for both 2.5T and 2.5L, whereas OEM’s have 2 different oil filters.

I don't know part numbers, but keep in mind that the turbo and non turbo use different filters and different oil grades.
There are a few stories on here about dealers installing the wrong filters and oil in the turbo engine.

I find it interesting but, disappointing that WIX and Fram list one filter for both Turbo and NA engines.

Not just Wix and Fram, all aftermarket oil filter manufactures have one filter listed for both 2.5L and 2.5T. For example, Mobil 1 lists M1-108A as a correct oil filter for both 2.5L and 2.5T on Mobil website, but principle applications of M1-108A oil filter stated on Mobil website are Hyundai, Kia (1994-10), Infiniti, Nissan (1995-16), Mazda (1990-08, 2011-16), Subaru (2004-15) (Mazda B6Y1-14-302, Subaru 15208-KA010). And Mazda part no. B6Y1-14-302 is an old OEM oil filter used on early Mazda2.

Lucky me. They landed safely on yesterday's mail.

Unfortunately Mazda North American Operations have stopped supplying PY8W-14-302 last year and it’s superseded by Thai (Thailand) made Denso 1WPY-14-302.

And WIX 57002 fits a Yaris too so therefore I will be using Mazda Thai made filters.

Toyota Yaris iA is a Mazda2 in disguise. Parts sold at Toyota dealers for Yaris iA are actually re-labeled Mazda OEM parts. Ask how I know? I have a 2018 Toyota Yaris iA.

Damn you surprise me every time lol

But Mazda oil filter still better?
WIX claims its 57002 oil filter is specifically designed for Mazda’s SkyActiv-G engines at beginning. But when Mazda came out with the 2.5T which uses different oil filter, Wix sill says 57002 is for the 2.5T. Other aftermarket oil filters are worse, claiming one oil filter fits every Mazda engine and dozens, if not hundreds, of engines from other car manufactures.

Yes, Mazda OEM oil filters are designed and manufactured to meet exactly the specs, hence they have to be better.
