Hi Everyone,
First, I want to say thank you for allowing me to join this forum.
I’d like to follow up on an issue I’m experiencing. Let me start from the beginning so you have some context.
We own a 2018 Mazda CX-9 Touring in Las Vegas. During the summer last year, the infotainment system began randomly rebooting. I did some research but couldn’t find a definitive answer to the problem. Some sources suggested it was a firmware issue, while others pointed to a hardware issue with the unit itself. To be honest, I didn’t pursue it much at the time.
However, the other day, I decided to revisit the issue. My IT instincts told me to perform a hard reset to see if that would fix it. I went ahead with the reset, and it worked like a charm. The system stopped rebooting, and I drove all day without any issues, using CarPlay with no problems. After the reset, I also removed the GPS SD card, as I’d read that a faulty map card could cause failures. Since I removed it after the reset, I’m not sure if that was contributing to the problem.
Fast forward to today: I tried connecting my wife’s iPhone to the car, and the phone started flickering as if the power connection was being repeatedly connected and disconnected. Of course, I thought, “Here we go again.” However, I suspect this might be an issue with the USB hub and that I may need to replace it. I checked on Amazon, and the hub costs about $70. I also started watching videos on how to replace it.
Since I work in IT and not automotive repair, I wanted to ask if anyone has experience with this issue. Could this be a software glitch, or is replacing the hub the best option? If I do replace the hub, will I need to unmount the screen and replace both parts, or can I just swap the hub itself?
Here is the software information of the car:
I’d appreciate any advice or suggestions you might have!
