That's weird. A quick search of the Bimmer forum shows thread after thread of X5 transmissions overheating.

I don't know why you insist on being so misinformed all the time. It's like a badge of honor with you. There have been nothing but raves with the ZF 8-speed in the Durango. And consumer reports has given the Durango's transmissions (all 3 of them) excellent ratings since 2012. The Daimler 5-speed in mine has been bullet proof as they all have been as far as the forums are concerned.
And the X5 is not even in the same class as the Durango. Very few families are cross shopping the two. It's pointless to compare them.
Have you?
GL-Molestor, How about the 475 HP SRT?

Meh. I’d rather go for a BMW M5, or an X5m if I wanted a fast car.
I feel the same JPL. Traverse or Atlas could be a good choice for bigger famies, who would otherwise buy a minivan. In my case, One of our kids already went to college. Honestly even a cx 5 will work for us. I will buy a cx 9, just for the turbo engine and little more space. In fairness, the new 2018 model has arrived and is light years ahead of the awful first gen. It's even bigger! Actually looks like a crossover version of a Tahoe. If you need a very large vehicle, it's now worth looking at. If you only have 2 kids though and only want an occasional 3rd row, the CX-9 is the more satisfying ride.
Yes.. I originally liked the looks, was dissapointed with the interior and infotainment system. Handled decent but felt too big and boaty compared to the BMW. The X5 has more sleek and expensive looking sheetmetal, far more comfortable interior and more buttoned down/nimble handling. Drives very nice for a truck.

As a side note, I appreciate you for responding comments in YouTube. Guess you are big Mazda fan like me![]()

X5 specs:
3L turbo inline 6 300hp
-6.1 seconds to 60
- 18 city 27mpg highway (in an SUV)
4.4L twin turbo v8 400 hp
-4.6 seconds to 60 (very fast for an SUV)
-14 city 22 highway
Considering that the v8 RT Durango is as fast as the 6 cylinder BMW while getting the fuel economy of a v8, you’d need to be completely out of your mind to choose the dodge especially considering that the older Gen x5 is a reliable and well built car.
But honestly, what’s wrong with the CX-9? That’s a great car.

We are talking about 6-7 seaters. X5 is a 5 seater. The 3rd row is a joke. Uncomfortable even for kids. I would admit though I would take the X5 over X3 as it has better proportions. Similar with CX-9. 3rd row with no AC vents is a joke! Makes it useless for anyone with a family.
Agreed, for a full person hauler youd probably have to look elsewhere. While I prefer BMWs drivetrain/engine tuning, I think Id go for an Acura MDX if I needed the space. Thats a great car, and I love Hondas chassis tuning.
The MDX has an impressive balance of performance, space and fuel economy. My brother has one. But if space is a primary requirement, the Durango has 25% more cargo volume, 5% more 2nd row legroom, and 12% more 3rd row legroom than the MDX.
The 2018 Traverse even exceeds those numbers.
The CX-9's numbers are closer to the MDX than the Durango / Traverse.
But the MDX interior. A buddy of mine with the previous gen. complains the new interior looks worse than the pilot. The MDX has an impressive balance of performance, space and fuel economy. The traverse has a 90s GM interior, but I could get used to it... why get used to it when this is 2017 with plenty of quality Japanese competitiors to choose from?
Maybe when the new Subaru full-size comes out I'll consider that unless it's underpowered.
