2017 CX 9 Customer Reviews

I don't know why you insist on being so misinformed all the time. It's like a badge of honor with you. There have been nothing but raves with the ZF 8-speed in the Durango. And consumer reports has given the Durango's transmissions (all 3 of them) excellent ratings since 2012. The Daimler 5-speed in mine has been bullet proof as they all have been as far as the forums are concerned.

And the X5 is not even in the same class as the Durango. Very few families are cross shopping the two. It's pointless to compare them.

calling the ZF unit in the dodge inferior to BMW's is not being misinformed. have you even driven the two cars side by side?

i bet none of you have, otherwise you guys wouldnt be spewing all this s*** and choosing a dodge over a BMW.

GL-Molestor, How about the 475 HP SRT?

Have you?

Yes.. I originally liked the looks, was dissapointed with the interior and infotainment system. Handled decent but felt too big and boaty compared to the BMW. The X5 has more sleek and expensive looking sheetmetal, far more comfortable interior and more buttoned down/nimble handling. Drives very nice for a truck.

X5 specs:

3L turbo inline 6 300hp
-6.1 seconds to 60
- 18 city 27mpg highway (in an SUV)

4.4L twin turbo v8 400 hp
-4.6 seconds to 60 (very fast for an SUV)
-14 city 22 highway

Considering that the v8 RT Durango is as fast as the 6 cylinder BMW while getting the fuel economy of a v8, youd need to be completely out of your mind to choose the dodge especially considering that the older Gen x5 is a reliable and well built car.

But honestly, whats wrong with the CX-9? Thats a great car.

Meh. Id rather go for a BMW M5, or an X5m if I wanted a fast car.

In fairness, the new 2018 model has arrived and is light years ahead of the awful first gen. It's even bigger! Actually looks like a crossover version of a Tahoe. If you need a very large vehicle, it's now worth looking at. If you only have 2 kids though and only want an occasional 3rd row, the CX-9 is the more satisfying ride.
I feel the same JPL. Traverse or Atlas could be a good choice for bigger famies, who would otherwise buy a minivan. In my case, One of our kids already went to college. Honestly even a cx 5 will work for us. I will buy a cx 9, just for the turbo engine and little more space.
As a side note, I appreciate you for responding comments in YouTube. Guess you are big Mazda fan like me :)

OMG dude, let me try to mansplain this again. The BMW X5 has a starting price of $57k. The Durango's is $29.9k. THEY ARE IN COMPLETELY DIFFERENT LEAGUES AND SHOULD NOT BE COMPARED SIDE BY SIDE.

If I'm paying twice as much for a vehicle, I'd sure as hell better hope it "Drives very nice for a truck"

Let's stick to discussing direct competitors to the CX-9, which the X5 is not.

I agree the Traverse looks great, at least the exterior. The dash has a little too much of the '90s GM look but I'd get used to it. Hate the pronounced wheel sell creases on the Atlas, and the grille. Don't think I could live with that even though it's also very well reviewed. Plus it's one of the slowest ones out there according to the recent Car and Driver comparison test (where the Durango beat the Pilot!)

Was looking at the Atlas but seeing the MPG killed it for me. People getting around 15 in the city... Not to mention the SEL Prem being priced sky high.

We are talking about 6-7 seaters. X5 is a 5 seater. The 3rd row is a joke. Uncomfortable even for kids. I would admit though I would take the X5 over X3 as it has better proportions. Similar with CX-9. 3rd row with no AC vents is a joke! Makes it useless for anyone with a family.

Agreed, for a full person hauler youd probably have to look elsewhere. While I prefer BMWs drivetrain/engine tuning, I think Id go for an Acura MDX if I needed the space. Thats a great car, and I love Hondas chassis tuning.

The MDX has an impressive balance of performance, space and fuel economy. My brother has one. But if space is a primary requirement, the Durango has 25% more cargo volume, 5% more 2nd row legroom, and 12% more 3rd row legroom than the MDX.

The 2018 Traverse even exceeds those numbers.

The CX-9's numbers are closer to the MDX than the Durango / Traverse.

The traverse has a 90s GM interior, but I could get used to it... why get used to it when this is 2017 with plenty of quality Japanese competitiors to choose from?

The Ford Explorer is outdated and bad except for its exterior.

The Traverse is a GM product which as a brand has endured several bankruptcies and corporate bailouts from the government. FCA is no different.

Hell, even Mazda hasnt filed for bankruptcy. They might not have a lot of money, but the make the most with what they got and still build class competitive vehicles. FCA and GM wouldnt be alive right now if it wasnt for the government, why would you ever buy anything from them?

Point is, quality is seriously lacking.

But the MDX interior. A buddy of mine with the previous gen. complains the new interior looks worse than the pilot.

Because the Pathfinder is widely derided in the automotive press as an utter piece of garbage.

The Pilot came in last in the recent Car and Driver comparo, BEHIND THE DURANGO, due to myriad gripes (handling, brakes, tranny.....)

Toyotas historically drive like appliances on castors.... though I would seriously consider the latest Highlander with updated 3.5L and 8-speed.

The CX-9, as noted throughout this thread, is a bit tight on space.

Maybe when the new Subaru full-size comes out I'll consider that unless it's underpowered.

As for the other models you've mentioned in this thread, I don't have a $50k+ budget.

My kids are fine in the 3rd row even on 100 degree days.. They tell me the 2nd row a/c floor vents blow to the 3rd row down low. I haven't been back there to confirm.

As far as a burbly V8 durango goes.. may not be our cup of bacon, but there is a market for that sort of thing. If we don't get it, then we won't get one. Obviously.

And the v6 turbo Explorers can be made very fast if you are into hot rodding.. even their latest Raptor is based on that engine config rather than a v8. I have a friend with a modded Exploder, it is very quick in a straight line. I'm pretty sure he got it for that very reason, its potential. They do get up into the high $40's to mid 50's optioned out. Maybe I'm image biased but if I did have the 55k for a Q7/X5/MDX/benz whatever, I'd still prefer to blow it on a Mazda/Dodge/Ford. I know plenty of people with the 'luxury' brand vehicles, and they don't do a thing for me.

The current gen MDX you can tell they are not proud of the center stack and gauge cluster, just look at the website gallery. The first image showing that goofy dual screen and uggo Acura control knob belly button is way down low, past even the seats.
