Exactly what they are designed!Leave the selector in Auto? That's what we did with our 17. My wife would leave the lights selector on "on" all the time. They shut off by themselves.

If they are the same as previous generations, DRLs will stay on until you select park or when i-stop disengages while you are in neutralDo the DRLs turn off at stop lights (etc.) or do they stay on until you put the car in park? I'm just curious if the DRLs would go on-and-off during stop and go traffic.

Probably due to the fact it will work properly in EuropeI fat fingered it, I don't have my 17 yet.
The few times I drove her CX-5, I noticed that her selector was on "on," I preferred auto.
To me, and, I'm certain, my wife as well, this DRL thing isn't a really an issue.

My coming 2017 is US specs, on the way to Germany.
That being said, I was hoping to tool around the German dealers 17s. They said they won't have them until June.

This is not false advertising. They are still LED DRL's if they work in conjunction with the headlights.

You don't have an issue on DRLs because you have a 2016 CX-5 Touring with DRLs on reduce-powered halogen high-beams. Now your upcoming US version 2017 CX-5 apparently uses full-powered LED low-beam headlights as the DRL, or part of DRL on GT with additional halo LED Signature DRLs. Using full-powered low beams as DRLs is now illegal in European Union. The few times I drove her CX-5, I noticed that her selector was on "on," I preferred auto.

European Union Directive 2008/89/EC requires all passenger cars and small delivery vans first type approved on or after 7 February 2011 in the EU to come equipped with daytime running lights. The mandate was extended to trucks and buses in August 2012. Functional piggybacking, such as operating the headlamps or front turn signals or fog lamps as DRLs, is not permitted; the EU Directive requires functionally specific daytime running lamps compliant with ECE Regulation 87 and mounted to the vehicle in accord with ECE Regulation 48. DRLs compliant with R87 emit white light of between 400 and 1,200 candela.
You really see me the only person having the issue on this? Read the entire 155 posts and see how many people like this? And count how many posts I have in this thread? It's entire European Union and many other countries who are making headlights as DRLs illegal! In fact, if all the observations are true by those 2017 CX-5 owners, 2017 Mazda CX-5 is the only new vehicle in the US market using full-powered low-beams as the DRLs! This's not in 90's where GM was pushing mandatory DRLs and using low-beams as the DRLs for cheaper cost!I think you're the only one, yrwei52 that REALLY has an issue over this.
This thread is incredible. The biggest issue for this car is that the DRL and headlights are the same bulb(s)? Haha!
The manual clearly shows that the DRL consists of both the main headlight lens, and the surrounding lights.
